if the christian faith is based on a book of firm truth, why do the dictators of chuches keep changing and modifying their policies to suit social acceptance, thus maintaining numbers.

A lot of devout Christians ask the same question.

Well the sad fact is that man is the one that has translated the meaning. But one should always be able to change if they come to a better understanding. A example of this, the Lords prayer. Mat.6:9 ; Our father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name... (How many people even use Gods name? the new KJ version has taking his name out completely.) Mat.6:10; thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven...(OK I'm sure that most teach that you go to heaven or hell when you die. So what would be the reason that that the kingdom is going to come to earth. If like most think... they are in heaven?)

Or another is the name of God.
I'm using the KJ version. (old one)
Ps. 83:18 that men may know that thou whose name alone is Jehovah art the most high over all the earth..
Ok so why is it that the Bible gives Gods name. Yet I hear people say "its to holy to use". If that was the case it would say in the Bible not to use his name at all.. Or if as some say God and Jesus are the same. Why would they use Jesus name? Wouldn't his name also be to holy? Seeming as he is in heaven now.
I could go on and on with this. LOL as you can see.
I am a Jehovah's Witness and we have had to make changes on time to time. Unlike many we do not do it to please any one other then Jehovah.

great question. shows you just how silly the notion of bible=truth really is.

midnight (above) said: Mine doesn't. My church, Old Time Baptist Church, does not compromise.

So, midnight. Do you sell your daughters into slavery? Do women shut up in church (as 1COR Ch 14 requires)? Does virtually nobody divorce? Anyone wear rayon?

Yeah, you do compromise. All of the bible cults do.
