So often in this forum I, as an atheist, am told I bash religion, I'm immoral and low and a host of other rather unflattering things. In truth, I make every effort to be respectful to others, regardless of religion, and I'm quite particular about my morality. You don't have to agree with my beliefs, just respect that I don't have to agree with yours, either.

What is terrible is when people have no moral core. Religion is the way most people find easiest for maintaining a moral core in the face of adversity and challenge. Life is difficult and sometimes choices are baffling. Being a good person without religion means taking the hard road, but I believe it can be done. Part of being a good person is respecting other people's beliefs, and I think, recognizing their sincere good wishes for you if they are dismayed at your choices.

No. It is quite nice that some people can stand on their own feet and don't worry about being punished or rewarded but do the right thing that will help the most number of people and hurt the fewest.

It is a good thing that some people can use their head and aren't narcissistic enough to try to invent a God in their own image.

You sound like a true atheist and not a fad follower or a thoughtless kid who's just in a rebellion stage of life.

It's a good thing your an atheist. It means you won't go off starting wars because of your stupid belief that you are in the right, regardless of what the evidence says. It means you won't be filled with hate because a book of fairy tales says you should be. It means you will look at things objectively, instead of from a skewed perspective. It means you won't deny medical traetment to children, because you think prayer works better.

Atheism. You know it makes sense.

Applaud.....You are much ahead of the game. You most likely can look at things with an open mind where most that believe in a religion can not. I have been in close contact with many religions. The more I know about them the more I dislike them. Not hate but dislike. Religions are the root of most of the problems man has with his fellow man.

Nope... not terrible at all. Who am I to tell you what to believe? That's your decision, your take, your perspective. Only you can live your life. It's a funny thing, isn't it? People post questions (my assumption is that they'd want answers with a variety of perspectives) and then get pissed off when people give their perspective.

Keep giving your own. Our belief systems are different... but that is all the more reason for me to learn from you.

No, it's not really that terrible. In fact, it isn't terrible at all.

I am an atheist too, and stand tall when challenged on my disbeliefs. Remember if a god-believer challenges (witnesses to) you, it is an opportunity to have a two-way conversation, and to deconvert them. It is a free exchange of ideas. Just remember to know when they shut down the two-way street, and then move on.

That depends entirely on why you are an atheist. If you are an atheist because you hold a web of justified, true, beliefs then there is nothing terrible about that.

So, the real question is why are you an atheist?

Not at all!
In fact I would say that you are closer to the truth than those you Proclaim their Belief in God but do not know him and Act as hypocrites saying one thing and doing another.

I know that you don't want to hear this but I do have to say it.
The Great thing about God is that he Loves you for who you are whether you know it or not. For God's love is unconditional, meaning that it is not limited by man or mans knowledge of it.

Nope, not terrible and I agree.. it'd be nice if people could simply respect the beliefs of others.

It may not unfortunately while you live, be all that terrible to you, my dear girl. But when you are dead and immediately go into the Holy presence of an Almighty Righteous God, and have NO reason for Him to allow you into His eternal presence, and the presence of ALL your friends, neighbors, family members that were SAVED, then you will see just how horribly terrible it was that you rejected God gracious, loving offer of SALVATION!!!
What will you have to offer Him in other words, for the salvation of your eternal soul? There is NOTHING that you could offer in exchange for your soul, so you could enter into God eternal blissful presence!!!
And you will, as well as ALL other atheists, some day, stand in HIS HOLY presence, for the Bible so states, that ALL will kneel and say that Jesus is Lord, and to be 'absent from (our) bodies, is to be immediately presence with the Lord'
