In college, people usually say how many years they have been in college (1st year, 2nd year, 5th year, etc) instead of traditional labels that you find in high school (Freshman, Sophomore, etc).

Usually it means what year you will graduate in. A common reply will not be the exact year but rather what year you are in college/high school.
"Freshman" = first year
"Sophmore" = second year
"Junior" = third year
"Senior" = last year
A 7th grader is usually not considered, it starts with 9th grade as freshman to 12th grade senior for highschool. 7th grade is considered junior high school and would technically be a junior of junior high school.

1st year : Freshman
2nd : Sophomore
3rd : Junior
4th : Senior.
Just as in High School!

A 7th grader would be the 1st year in Junior High or Middle School.

Hope this helps!

The year you will graduate. For you, H.S. graduation year should be 2012 and 2016 for a four year degree in college.
