Good question, GPs were recently banned from writing prescriptions for their own use. However a survey suggested that 43% do anyway. Surprisingly the younger GPs are more guilty of this practice, 49%. This is odd because older GPs will have been used to doing it without criticism for years.
It is however unlikely that a GP would find himself in any real trouble unless he was prescribing inappropriately.

Doctors should refrain from writing prescriptions for themselves and Iam sure there are regulations. However they probably do from time to time.
The only thing that is more closely regulated is prescriptions written for controlled drugs.

I worked in a pharmacy for a couple of years and we would have doctors that would come down and write prescriptions for themselves from time to time. Some times they would even discuss which medicine to take with the pharmacist. The only restrictions I'm aware of is that they can't write Rx's for controlled substances for themselves.
