there is no best brand when it comes to wood you have to figure out where you going to use and where i would get the engineered wood it holds up good and it does not expand as much as sold ones here is a list of wood for the hardest to the soft
Brazilian cherry ...............hard
mahogany
hickory/pecan
hard maple
white oak
ash
beech
red oak
birch
heart pine
walnut
teak

pine ........................soft

I suggest the new laminate wood flooring such as Mannington makes, very durable, and easy to care for!
