It is not a duct, it is a fish. They have no legs, they are similar to Trout in the shape, but have very little and fine scales. Whitish pink when fresh, acquires light brawn tint is dried.
It is available fresh in the season, can be cooked and eaten many ways. The extra is dried and can be use like Jerky or can be cooked in different ways, in many type of gravy or soup type food. It can be pickled, best known dish is "Tarapory Patio". Gujarati name is Bumla, if dried, it is call sukkha Bumla. It is common around Bombay and part of the west cost. It was at one time very reasonably priced.
