My 2 cats (8mths old) always bite each other (looks very hard) on the others neck? They will bite hard then start licking them then bite again then lick a while again. What the heck are they doing that for? They take turns doing it. But their tails are waging the whole time. Seems like a strange way to play if thats what they are doing. They look like they bite so hard.

when dogs and cats play it is actually their preservation instincts at work, a cat in a real fight will always go for the neck this will give a quick kill, your cats are playing out this and by licking after the bite its saying i had you if i really wanted to but i dont want to hurt you.

My 2 cats do the same thing! You're right, looks like they're going for the jugular! Odd way to "play". What's even odder is the whole licking each other on the neck..I mean, what are they doing, are they "necking"? No, I know, they're like ovens, they're "self cleaning", but being a "faghag" and only having gay men for girlfriends, ya start to wonder, maybe I shouldn't have dressed them in drag for Halloween..

it does not matter what there tails are doing, if they are biting each other, they are trying to decide who is dominate and who is submissive, and from the looks of it, they are both dominate, because the one that is submissive will not bite back, and they are most likely playing, but when they get older and continue this behavior, they will most likely not be playing any more. if they continue this behavior when they are older, they will keep biting and biting until they draw blood, so it is best to stop this behavior while they are young is it won't turn into a bad habit, so every time they bite each other from now on, gently pull them apart to let them know that this behavior is not okay with you, and continue this until they don't do it any more.

They are not hurting each other although it may seem that way. They are just play fighting but they nurse (lick) each other as a way of saying i dont mean it really!

Theyre probably "Vampire-Cats"!

even if its Not true,....u can amuse your mate by saying "I've got some 'Persian Vampire Cats'! and your friend says "Okay, whatever"
then when your friend comes over to your house and see the cats doing the 'neck-bite technique' on each other.....
Then your friend will say "OMFG! They REALLY ARE Vampires!!!!"
"WOW!!!"

It sounds like mine. They are just play fighting. Preparing to catch mice when they go out etc.

If they really wanted to kill each other, you would know about it. Its probably playfighting, but also check for fleas and ticks
