Usually your Dr. will suggest it if they think you are "disabled", it is extremely difficult to qualify with those two diagnoses. You can check at google try: disability qualifications, and it will give you some ideas.
Good Luck, I've been dealing with the process for nearly a year and a half and that's after my Dr. had been wanting me to apply for the last 3 years.
I have degenerative scolisis as my "main diagnosis", I'm 4 inches shorter than I was 5 years ago, I've lost 30 pounds, I've gone through all their vocational rehab screening and I still am waiting for a hearing.

You doc is the one that decides if you should be on disability or not. If your doc feels you should be on disability because you cannot work then get the paper work started. With the diagnosis you have one of the first things you should do to help minimize or eliminate some of your symptoms is to get rid of all of your toxic cleaning and laundry products and replace them with all natural products. Many of those cleaners sold in the store are registered pesticides. Take your old cleaners and laundry products to your nearest toxic waste recycling place to dispose of them once you switch. Have someone come in to your home and thoroughly clean everything including shampooing the carpet and furniture with the all natural products. Have them launder all your clothes and bedding in the all natural stuff for you. Be sure to take a good mulitvitamin that is well absorbed by your body and a good anitoxidant supplement as well glucosamine with some ginger and green tea extracts to help with the aches and pains. Also be sure you are not drinking or eating products that contain Aspartame as this can contribute to your problems especially if you are a diet soda drinker.

Oh, yes, contact SSA, later when they deny you don't panic, you will need a disability attorney, they take 25% but they do it all. From the time you apply the money they owe you is racking up so you will get back pay, the atty takes a portion of this as well. If you get disability you'll get mediare. If you get SSI you'll get a medicaid card. When you get your back pay you will have to spend it quickly so start thinking now what you will need. You can pay cash for some work on your house etc. Then your checks will come direct deposit, the lawyer does ot get that.

Do yourself a huge favor and go see a Disability lawyer, They do not charge unless you win your case, and the money comes right out of the disability. I applied for disability by myself (due to Systemic Lupus/strokes) and got nowhere, as soon as I got the lawyer, things changed dramatically. it still took sometime, two years in fact, but it was all worth it!

Good luck-
Also, you can go to medicare/disabilities web site and look at their health listings, these are specific diseases that are usually given disability - hope that helps

I think if it inhibits you from working and putting out 100% it could be a disability especially if you have constant pain and you can't sleep, can't stand, sit for any amount of time. Go to the Dr. and lawyer and tell them about it. Sometimes you can get retraining to help you get a job that you can handle. Good luck!
