You are probably urinating more frequently during the day. After you go to sleep, your body continues to excrete fluids through your kidneys and these fluids are stored in your bladder. Since you are not drinking water while sleeping, your body fluids have become more concentrated, therefore, the color is yellow when you first urinate after wakening.

Because when you drink water it diltues the yellow particles. At night, unless you wake up and drink alot of water, you are not drinking water so you dont dilute it. Also the urine has been sitting in the bladder longer so it has higher concentration of "chemicals" than other urine (thats why some medical tests require first morning urine i.e. pregnancy tests, UTI, some blood sugar tests, etc.). And, yes, your body does clean and restore itself while sleeping - that may factor into it as well.

Urine is always yellow in colour. The colour is the result of the Kidneys filtering the blood. Urine will appear to be a darker yellow because it becomes concentrated in the bladder over night. Urine can appear paler yellow if you drink a lot of fluids and therefore it is less concentrated.

Because you do not take in fluids while you sleep so it is a natural golden yellow aka amber color. When you are drinking this keeps the urine diluted which is why it is pale during the day. After not drinking it is more concentrated in the morning when you first get up.

It's just a case of having less water in your system.
Since you are not drinking water for 6-10 hours as you sleep,
you become less hydrated than during the day.

Urine gets stronger and collects more overnight. All day long you drink water but you also pee so at night you are not peeing and the urine is stronger in the morning.

Hmmm, not too sure bout that, but I do know the reason beer goes thru you so fast is because it doesn't have to change color.
