As to why many people in the Old Testament lived much longer than people today, I don't really have a good explanation for that; but God's Word says it, so I believe it.
There are clear reasons why we can believe in the authority of the Bible. A study of the fulfilled prophecies of the Bible alone would undeniably confirm the fact that it was divinely inspired and that only God could have brought about the fulfillment of so many prophecies in the proper time to the proper person and in the proper sequence. Jesus Himself used the Scriptures as the authoritative Word of God (Matthew 4:4-10) and declared that their authority could not be broken (John 10:35).
The more one studies the Scriptures, the more one becomes aware of the fact that the Bible passes every test that can be applied to it in order to evaluate its divine inspiration, authority, and inerrancy. We also know that the Bible is God's Word because of the transformation we have seen it make in the lives of those who read, believe, and live by its teaching. It is God's own Word, His saving truth which He has spoken to mankind. It is inspired from beginning to end, and it is the only infallible guide of faith and practice—read 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and 2 Peter 1:19-21.

You are in end times and these days its hard to believe the one you live with so how hard it is to believe something that happened 1000's of years before.
Husbands dont trust their wife, nor does brother believe brothers now if u can believe this than you should even believe things that happen years before..
Sometimes i believe that maybe im the 3rd generation of human beings or the world just started 400yrs before but humans existed long time back and certain things are unbelieveable. Just like you can feel the air but cannot see.
But what u cant see u cant believe it but it does exist and is the only source for you to live.

Things where very different before the great flood. The bible does not talk much about it but in Noah time there where Giants and other things we don't have today. People lived to be over 600 years of age. But after the flood it says that God did not want men to live that long and said no one will live passed the age of 120. The great flood destroyed all the Giants and all that where saved where Noah, his family, and the animals he brought with him on the ark.

Genesis. Adam and Eve were perfect. Because they ate the forbidden fruit, they were punished with death. As they create offspring, perfection keeps getting eroded. Like a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy, the latter ones are more imperfect than the original. Today's bodies are not as strong and die earlier as oppose to the closer to the perfect human bodies in the beginning that were intended to live forever. Sin took that away now everyone dies until the appointed time of resurrection of the dead and restoration of paradies lost by Adam and Eve.

They lived so long because people were not as tainted with disease and the effects of old age. God actually cursed man kind in Genesis (sorry, do not remeber the reference right now) to live only up to 120 years because of sinful acts going on.
God Bless,

In the old testament everybody obeyed the laws that God made and Jesus obeyed. now instead of trying to live the way Jesus show us to most of us eat unclean meats and have sex with anything that breaths. the laws are now ignored. Jesus said he did not com to change the law but fulfill it. since it is not all fullfilled we all should still be obeying the law!

The biggest difference is Jesus died and his word is avalible to more than just the Jews...
I believe the reason they lived so long was atmosphere, diets, and most importantly the world was in better order...Today the world is going into choas.

Actually, there isn't any scientific evidence which suggests that people two-thousand years ago lived much longer than people do today.
Most of the 'evidence' suggesting that they did comes from religious texts, which aren't known for their intellectual honesty, to say the least.

The Bible is written in many literary styles. One is allegory. Abraham lived to be 175 = Abraham lived a good long life.

I believe you will find most of the 'old-timers' (900 year old +), are pre flood time (excluding Noah, who lived about that time).
Life spans shorten quickly after the flood.
