I forgot a pot of water on the stove for about 30 to 45 minutes. When I remembered I ran into the kitchen to find that all the water had evaporated and when I picked up the pot to move it off the burner the metal coating on the bottom had liquified and ran off the pot onto the top of the stove and then onto the floor.

Isn't that amazing or have you ever heard of that before?

I'm thinking it may be faulty material. What do you think?

I am so lucky that the metal didn't drip off onto my foot!

The pot is actually stainless steel w/ copper and an aluminum looking material that coats the area that touches the burner. I'm guessing its the aluminum that melted.

OMG!!! This was an Emeril pot. My vinyl flooring is ruined too. It is going to cost me $500 or more to replace it because it can't be patched.

Oh yes! Making anykind of "sugar" concoction whether caramel or simple syrup will always tell you in the recipe to use a "heavy guage" pot!
That's why we in the business tell people to use safety in the kitchen! Hot oil has caused many to remodel the kitchen and on some occassions- reconstruct the dwelling!

yes i have. it happened to me. i had a martha stewart copper bottom pot set and the pot was left on the stove too long. when it was removed the whole bottom of the pot fell off and burned a hole in my kitchen floor. the metal turned to liquid and flew everywhere when the pot was move. i still have the pot and all the molten meltal pieces and don't know what to do with them ,or where to go to complain about the product.

if the pot is light gauge aluminium it can actually catch on fire! The top of your stove is incredibly hot.
