It only occurs when I stand for a long time. It also sometimes aggravates my lower back when I lay on my stomach. The only thing that makes it feel better is to sit down for a while.

Try your shoes. Your back is probably hurting because of the shoes you are wearing while standing. Get some good insoles and put them in a good pair of shoes with some support.

Sounds like your spine needs re-adjustment. Get yourself to a Chiropractor. You may also find a lot of relief by standing on a rubberized static mat,[your employer should be providing one for any employee having to stand for long periods of time, especially on concrete floors].The Occupational Health and Safety commitee at your place of work will intervene on your behalf if your boss does see the benefits of the mats.
You may also be in need of corrective orthotics. These are specialized inserts that are worn inside your shoes to correct an improper stance or foot pressure problem. Don't just buy the ones at the drugstore though as everyone has a unique foot shape and they need to be customized to your individual concerns.See a foot specialist. Hope this helps, been ther & know all about it.

I'm not a doctor but I have a similar problem. It seems many people have this problem. I think it could be that standing compresses a disc or vertebrae.

My solution has been to wear one of those "self-heating" pads you can apply and wear under your clothes. Also, try stretching frequently. This helps me a lot.

I'm also learning that good arch support in your shoes can help. This may be evident by the fact that sitting relieves your pain. You could start by trying the affordable shoe inserts you can get at any store. (They have REALLY helped me with foot pain). If they help a little, it may indicate where the problem lies. Our feet really support our spine and it goes from there. Then you could get more info from your doctor or a specialist.
