I was driving home last night and the expressway (suburbs of Chicago) was absolutely jam packed. There was a high speed chase that involved one civilian car and close to 15 police cars, first on the northbound side, then it changed to the southbound side. They passed me at neck-braking speeds and about a mile later, I saw the car had spun out of control, flipped over and hit a tree... There were cop cars everywhere.
Don't you think it's irresponsible for police to be engaging in a high speed chase when the streets or a highway as the case may be, are absolutely blocked with traffic. Everybody was in danger of being struck by either the guy fleeing or the police.

If anyone innocent was hurt, there would be no legal action they could take. Should the police take a more responsible action to catch a criminal?

Depends on the crime. If he was speeding and ran, they probably would have let him go. If he just shot a cop, they would probably chase him through a mall.

Your kidding me, right? You think that if an innocent by-stander was hurt that the Police Department, the officers, the mayor, the police chief and anyone else remotely invovled would be sued with in an inch of their lives; you are completely unaware of politics today.

I can not see the reason why a police officer, or a suspect for that matter, would attempt to have a high speed chase in an area that is absolutely blocked with traffic....or even HOW they managed to do it.

Do you know what the offense was of the person they were chasing? Maybe this person was a murderer, I understand your concern about safety and I agree that they should take every ones safety into consideration, but they really can't choose the best time to chase down a criminal. I've seen on TV where they are chasing down criminals for different reasons and some are just not worth the safety of everyone else. And other times it is necessary.
