Would you think, using your own mental capabilites, that there is something bigger than yourself?

Would you end up worshipping something besides your self? And what would be your gold standard to live peacefully among others?

How do you think you *could* think?

From where do you think you got your mental capabilities?

Can you create?! If not, who *did* create the heavens and the earth, the stars and the planets? life?

We are "wonderfully and fearfully made." By slime? by climbing out of the primordial ooze? by evolution? from one-celled creatures? Then, who created the slime, the primordial ooze, evolution, the one-celled creatures?!

From where would you get the "gold standard" to live peacefully among others, if a Supreme Being had not created said "gold standard"?

Come back and ask your questions again, *after* you have created *something* out of nothing - when you have created *one* solar system, *one* planet, a single, simple, living cell, a single amino acid, a single molecule, a single atom, a single sub-atomic particle, *anything* out of nothing!

Chances are there is a being somewhere in the universe that has far greater knowledge, experience, wisdom, etc. than the human race. It's a big universe, and we can't be all that's in it. I am, however, an atheist - whatever that being is, I may grow to respect it, but I won't call it a god, and I won't worship it. I think the greatest danger of religion is that many will lay their actions on their chosen deity and refuse to take responsibility for what they do. Others will do good for fear of their deity, and not for themselves or their fellow man. Still others will follow blindly in the words of scriptures or the people that teach from them, and not use their own judgement or question the truth of the writings (which can and no doubt have been altered over the years through translations from one language to another, and by corruption within various religious bodies). Should I come face to face with a 'higher being' I will give it respect, and still rely on my own judgement. As for the 'gold standard' for living peacefully among others - learn to be at peace with yourself first, and secure in what you believe. Trust me, it makes you a lot more tollerant of others.

> "Would you think, using your own mental capabilites, that there is something bigger than yourself?"

If you mean rational capabilities, then no. There is no rational evidence of something "bigger" (except in the obvious sense of whales, and big rocks, and big balls of burning hydrogen ... but I feel no desire to worship them).

If you include intuitional instincts, then yes. My intuition tells me there is something "bigger" ... but there is no way I could convince anybody else of that intuition.

> "Would you end up worshipping something besides your self?"
I don't see why there is a rational need to "worship" anything.

> "And what would be your gold standard to live peacefully among others?"
A strong sense of self.

In other words, some people seem to need faith to find morality. For me, morality leads to faith.

Please at least *consider* the possibility that people tell you that you do not know anything about evolution is ... well ... because you clearly do NOT know anything about evolution! 50 years? How hard does one have to work to get *that* wrong an idea about science?

I might find something bigger than myself. I left the Christian faith, and seem to have found something that works for me, and it does involve a higher power.

Would I have come upon this if there weren't any religion in the world? I'm not sure. Someone had to come with the idea in the first place, and given religion's universality, it must have caught on for a reaon.

Some claim a "god shaped hole" that we all have. I don't know for sure. I do believe in reincarnation, as there seems to be some good evidence with people describing people and places that they have had no prior access to. Perhaps spirituality, the existence of something beyond ourselves leads to such faith.

There are a billion things bigger than I am. If you mean at a higher level than ordinary humans, my answer is no. To believe in a so-called higher power, I would have to believe in foolish superstition. I don't.
I sure don't worship myself. Where would a supposedly intelligent person get such a stupid idea ?
My standard is one hundred percent honesty, integrity, loyalty, truthfulness, which is seldom if ever found among most church goers.
This stupid idea that the church teaches honesty, so if you don't go to church, you must be dishonest is believed by religious nuts.
I hold my standards at the highest. My church-going friends know this, and it sure does make them uneasy. All their arguements are right down the drain.

The gold standard is my own integrity and dignity. There is no satisfaction in living life without morals and ethnics. They build self-respect. I live my life as a humanist and find it fulfilling. I don't worship myself nor do I worship anything else. I think that the concept of the God is a concept created by man.

I consider what you say brother. Alhumdulillah I also have a small Quran at domicile this is wrapped in a white cloth adorned with little stars. i admire The Holy Quran, this is the main severe and specific e book that has ever existed. there is not any desire for fancy bookcases as lengthy because it rather is roofed in a clean overlaying and stored in a clean, risk-free place. And The Holy Quran should not be stored in storage accumulating dirt, we ought to consistently recite the pleasing words of the Quran as in many circumstances as we are in a position to InshaAllah.

I just recently read the book The Secret, so I have decided that there is something higher, but your mental capabilities are what really matters. I wouldn't worship something when I don't know what it is, I don't worship myself either but I am trying to love myself. Think Positively as much as possible.

Whithout My Loving Heavenly Father, my life would cease to be.
Because I think He was always there with me,
I couldn't live & barely imagine a God forsaken Earth,

I guess that tells you a little something on Why we Live for Christ & want to show you once you know Him, theres no wanting to go back to our filthy rags - as they were.

i might not be the one to start it, but even if all Christianity is wiped off the Earth, it wouldn't take long for such a mental disease as religion to spread itself again in full plague
