Must fix camera?

I have a Vivitar 5386 camera. 5.0 mega pixels. 2.5 LCD Monitor. 3x Optical zoom. The problem is it shut off and will not turn on. The zoom went from all the way out to partially sticking out in stuck mode. (As in it's stuck) can somebody give me some home repair tips.

I have it running on batteries (store bought AA's)

Replace/recharge the battery
