By raising energy related taxes using the guise of global warming as the excuse, politicians are taxing the less well off disproportionately. Wouldn't a fairer idea be that we all be rationed so that no one can use more energy than another.
It might even be possible to trade unused energy rations.

Yes.

Everyone on Earth should have an equal right to use energy. At present we are bullying undeveloped Africa to use so little energy they cannot even have electricity (we do not give them aid if they do not agree).

Give everyone an equal share. This means the average American needs to cut his/her use by about 98%.

We will not make much difference on our own. But it does give the government an oppotunity to claw more of our money in taxes. This old world has been turning far longer than the zealots have been around. We have had ice ages
and heaven knows what, but this old world is still here. Nature will decide what happens next, not some politician jumping on the bandwagon.

I think that more people should be given incentives to use renewable energy resources. My brother lives in a community in London that had been given a £150K grant from the Carbon Trust as they are completely self sustaining. I think that we all should have access to solar heating at lower costs and there should be more wind farms out to sea. However we recycle everything including food waste (peelings etc) we have energy saving bulbs too. Also a little known fact, if you contact your energy provider and ask, they have to provide your energy from a renewable source, if everyone did this and it was made known more publicly then we would all benefit.

A Carbon tax is a form of rationing, but a Carbon ration would be more effective. You could use an ID card to claim your allowances every time you bought fuel, planted a tree, recycled, etc.

The majority of greenhouse gases are produced by countries who refuse to sign up to treaties eg. the US and China. What the rest of the world do is irrelevant as far as global warming is concerned. Politicians are looking for votes not environmental change.

Global Warming a very fascinating concept I for one don't believe it and as far as taxing our energy the more you use the more tax you pay and vice versa

or go the way i did solar hot water and solar power truthfully though it was cheaper than getting the energy company to run power out to my property

Rationing energy is not the way, switching to alternative energy is. Everybody is using energy, including ecologists and zealots, and they need energy for their protests. The only wish is that energy comes from alternative, clean, non-polluting sources.

We can reduce the effects to a manageable level without extreme actions. We can even save money doing it, given the ever increasing cost of oil. We need to:

Develop more efficient ways to use energy and still do the same things. Compact fluorescent light bulbs are just one example.

Develop alternative energy sources; nuclear, solar, wind, biofuels, clean coal.

Develop ways to capture (sequester) carbon dioxide.

The country that does these things first and best can make a lot of money selling stuff.

Finally, the zealots are right and the deniers are wrong. :-)
