Do i pop sweets into my mouth DURING the run? Will that help? Does long dist.runners do the same, running and taking in glucose at the same time?

That's a pretty short run (shouldn't take more than 15 minutes) - I wouldn't eat (or drink) anything during it. I could never eat anything before or during a run, or else I would get cramps. Anyway, your body wouldn't have enough time to metabolize the sugar before you finish the run, so what would be the point?

No sugar. Sugar is a simple carbohydrate. So that means you'll get a small burst of energy, but it won't last long at all while running, then you'll experience the crash.

You need complex carbos and you should "carbo load" days before your run, not during the run. Pasta, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and plenty of b-vitamins. B-vitamins help the body convert food into energy. Also hydrate yourself starting days before the event.

During the run, you should eat some form of PowerBar, CliffBar, LunaBar, etc. Some form of energy bar that's made up of complex sugars and carbos.

2.4km is an awfully short race. If you eat properly before and the morning of the race, you should be more than fine.
