I would rather have a cat. While dogs are loyal, trainable and loving, cats are independant, clever and protective. A dog will immediately love anyone who takes it home, but earning a cat's love is more difficult and far more rewarding. Dogs tend to be messier and take up more space than cats. So if you want an obedient, noisy, high-maintenance pet, get a dog. But if you want a lifelong friend, get a cat.

I prefer cats - and I have 2.

Some cat pros - they can be litter boxed trained; they don't bark at all hours; they don't slobber all over you; they can be very affectionate; playtime is a laugh a minute; they are generally self-cleaning.

To the guy who said you can't train cats- wrong! Cats can be trained to do all kinds of things, you just have to go about it the right way, and it takes patience- yes, more than with a dog, and you have to start when they are a kitten, but it can be done.

Dogs are OK- I've known some great dogs, but I've known more not-so-great dogs. My biggest issue is that dogs bark - at all hours- and while its possible, it's very hard to train a dog not to bark. (Especially if it's a little dog). I'm also not big on getting slobbered on, which most dogs seem to think it's their job to do. Once in a while is OK, I got slobbered on my a siberian husky puppy yesterday at the pet store, but not on a daily basis!

Since you love dogs you should go with a dog. But it takes alot to keep them clean. If you dont want a pet that you need to clean it would be best to go with a cat. Good luck with finding a pet. Hope that i helped.

dog, you do realize this is the "dog" section so most people on here will say DOG!!!!!!
EDIT- At least you can trust a dog to come home evn when somone els feeds it and you feed it!!! Don't expect the cat to come home!!! You can also train dogs!!! Cats are stubern!!! Dogs have WAY more personality than cats!!! All cats are pretty mutch the same!!! Dogs are smart and will do what you say!!! Cats will only do what they please and when they feal like it!!!!

Dogs are more fun however they are real messy. Cats are also fun but not as fun as dogs. Cats make great companions and they dont make a lot of messes. I would rather a cat.

Definitely a dog, I personally think they have more personality. I'm not too fond of the smell of the litter box either so that's another reason why I like a dog
