Nowhere is an appropriate place to tell someone that they're going to hell. Only God decides someone's eternal destiny, not us human beings.

I don't think too many people have been intimidated into the Kingdom of God lately, no matter how often the hell card is played. But a lot of people have been loved into it by the care and concern of the followers of Christ.

Sean, I'm sorry that someone who claims the Name of our loving and merciful Savior said such hurtful things to you. This is one Christian who is saddened by such behavior.

And the Christians will ask you back, "Is yahoo answers, R & S, the appropriate place for an Athiest?" So my question to you is...

Given that you are an Atheist, why are you concerning yourself with the threat of hell? It should be as frightening to you as being told that the monster in your bedroom closet is going to jump out and get you. In short, the threat should be totally meaningless.

The appropriateness of where and when you receive a meaningless threat is a moot point. It doesn't matter because the threat is without substance.

No, but then I have read some of your other answers and I was wondering if you managed to irratate someone into inappropriate behaviour.

Having read the thread you point out I agree with S W. IF you persist in your path, I believe that will be your end also. Doesn't mean I wish it for you or any human being. It is a dreadful punishment designed for an eternity and is meant to exact retribution for sin against God who deserves and requires better of us.
But you do have free will to disregard. Go ahead run the stop signs. Don't wear your seat belt. Just keep in mind, Consequences to actions. Hey, if you are right, no problem. You just won't have the conciousness to gloat.

Hell is not funny business. To say some one is going here or there is not our business. The lesson of the sheep and goats tells us this. Not to mention there will be "Christians" that find out that they are not going to the place they believe they are, likewise there will be some lucky few that find themselves in better stead.

So while it is appropriate to say that IF you continue on the path of destruction it is fair to say you will achieve your goal, but as others have already said it is not the place of Christians to say some one WILL go there. It is up to our God and he alone knows the right of it. We need to worry more about our own salvation and work it out with fear and trembling.

If we Christians worked harder at living our lives for Christ and answering better (myself included). Others may just come to question their path and seek the better one.

I might check your question out.

As a Christian, no one should tell anyone they're going to hell, even if that's the direction someone is headed. To tell someone they're going to hell would be judging. We can however, warn someone that hell is the direction they're headed if they don't repent of their sins before they die. There's no telling where someone will end up. For example, a drug addict or homosexual may 5 years down the road come to the realization they can't live by their own strength and finally admit their sins to God in order to be forgiven. At which point, they're no longer headed for hell. They then become God's children.

And more to the point, is there EVER an appropriate place to say that to someone? Christians seem to think that this is what Jesus meant by go forth and preach the good news.. the good news is that you're going to hell if you don't accept Jesus? That's not what he said at all.
They're just showing the "christ within" them. And with that, they have as much chance of going to their hell as you do.

hi Maureen! 2 issues: i trust those who wrote that you should ignore about him. the different: you should have placed "Christian" in parenthesis also: please comprehend that no longer everybody who calls themselves a "Christian" is. in simple terms even as i made up my ideas some years in the past to run faraway from Christians, I met some actual ones. stay and study, i wager. 3 issues!!!!! stay faraway from everybody and anybody who tells you to "burn in hell". No sane individual ought to assert this kind of element.... playstation (4, i wager) : shop in ideas the first commandment: believe in a unmarried God. people fail to appreciate this. it truly is why there is many arguments about Christians, Jews, Muslims and so on, - and clearly there are all those branches of those religions. in simple terms walk away.

no, I serious think it's inappropriate to tell someone to go to hell, or that they are going to hell. This forum is for asking questions and answering posed questions about life but cussing is not appropriate. Besides, isn't the destination of your soul a matter between you and God?

Let me ask you a question: Do you honestly believe that all those tyrants who killed millions will never be held responsible for their crimes? Do you honestly believe that child abusers and drug dealers and those who oppress the poor, and all the others who bring misery and death to our world, will never be held responsible for their crimes? I hope not.

And would it shock you to discover that no one in the Bible spoke more about judgment and Hell than Jesus? I suspect it would—and yet it's true. He warned that someday God will say to all those who have ignored His laws, "Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels" (Matthew 25:41). God is holy and just, and someday all the evils and injustices of this world will be judged.

But this isn't the whole story! God also is kind and merciful and loving (as you say), and He yearns for us to know Him and be with Him in heaven forever. That is why He sent His only Son into the world. Jesus Christ came for one reason: to save us from our sins. He did this by taking upon Himself the judgment and punishment we deserve.

The Bible says, "God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Don't turn your back on Christ, but by faith open your heart to Him and trust Him alone for your salvation.

To every one of Gods fires there is a fire extinguisher. I believe in the parables Jesus left behind to give us some heads up. Human beings haven't changed in thousands of years remember when Moses came down from the mountain and everyone was praying to the golden calf like they were having a Super Bowl Sunday you cant fight it. Hell is what you make it just like everything else.
