I just cut my two year old's hair this morning! I actually stripped him naked (was going to give him a bath afterwards), and had him sit on the toilet. He's learning to use the adult toilet, so I combined the two. He sat there and we talked about how great it would be if he would pee in the potty. He doesn't like haircuts either, so this distracted him from thinking about what I was doing atop his head. We chatted about going potty in the toilet and within 5 minutes, I was done with the haircut. He didn't go potty in the toilet though, so I lost THAT battle. :)

This is very common for a two year old. I ran into the same thing when I had my salon. Don't use clippers as the sound will only scare him worse. Try giving him a lollipop to keep him occupied or let him hold onto a small toy. You are only making matters worse by the "wrestler holds." Keep praising him along the way. If nothing else works, hold off a bit with the haircuts. Never, cut his hair while he's asleep, as it will only create worse problems in the long run.

Its totally normal. Most kids this age HATE getting haircuts. I usually did the same thing with my kids, just pin them down to hurry up and get it over with. But some ideas that helped calm them was I either had them sit on my lap while getting their haircut, or I let them have a lollipop or hold a special toy while doing it. I usually had them skip putting the cape on because that freaked them out more for some reason.

I used to cut my kids hair in the bathtub. I`d put toys in the bath for them to play with and they`d sit there and play while I cut their hair. I would, ( after the hair cut), pull the plug and drain the water with the hair in it. After all that I would run the shower, ( hand held nozzle) over my child and clean them off. MY KIDS LOVED IT!!

When I took my son for his first hair cut, he had a sucker and sat in my lap.(YES, it is messy!, you will be a sticky hair ball when you are done) Then as he grew and couldn't sit in my lap, the barber had a drawer full of candy and if he sat really still he was allowed to pick his own two peices of candy out when done.

I have trouble getting my 2 year old to sit still for anything! Can you just let his hair grow until he's not so afraid? Maybe he could have it cut with scissors, not clippers. Maybe he's afraid of the noise.

I have the same problem with my miniature Schnauzer. The vet prescribed some sedatives. Is there a vet near you? Just kidding, don't drug the kid. But how about just after he falls asleep? How about having him distracted by a TV show?

Maybe you should let him watch you get your hair cut to show that it doesn't hurt. And offer him a reward like ice cream afterwards.

Cutting his hair while he is sleeping will only give him trust issues with you.

If you can, take him to one of those kids haircut places. They know all the tricks, have tv's, cool chairs and know how to deal with kids. It may be a bit pricey, but its worth it. My son holds still now because he loves the fire engine chair!

let him play with a toy, or (if he is allowed) you can hold a sucker up to his mouth and let him suck it until the haitcut is done. and when he is done you should award him, (only because he doesnt really know what they are doing besides cutting his hair) EX- hold one of his toys and tell him that he can have it after he is done.
other than that idk......good luck
