We are having a medium sized reception at our local VFW hall. The chairs are regular old folding chairs (kinda ugly) and I am undecided as to whether or not I want to add chair covers and sashes. I've been told no one will notice...but I dont want the place to look mismatched after we decorate the tables, plus the added cost of renting them...please help!!

I have the same problem. BUT, I personally don't (and never really did) care much for chair covers with sashes. I won't be using them. HOWEVER.....if you think you DO want to and are concerned about the price, you could always get a plain fabric and cut it into squares yourself and maybe even sew the edges so it doesn't unravel. Then get more material and make the sashes too. It would be pretty easy, and no, I'm not crafty...lol...But, it would be inexpensive and if I wanted chair covers, I would prob go that route...

Good luck to you!!

You can dress them up.. but they'll still be folding chairs! I can guarantee that no one will expect anything different at the VFW :)

Did you see the episode of Desperate Housewives when Lynette fouled up the chair order for the new restaurant? It all worked out fine.. because when people are IN the chairs, no one notices them at all!

The last thing you need to be doing before your wedding is sewing up a hundred or so one time use chair covers.. you'll have much better things to do! Although one thing I would suggest... if the hall uses wooden folding chairs, have them checked for splinters. I've had dresses and stockings ruined by old chairs in poor repair.. but if they all pass muster, pass on the covers!

Good luck on your wedding :)

usually chair covers are pretty formal. So if you're going a little more casual don't worry about it. However, if you'd like to dress it up why not meet in the middle and tie a ribbon/sash around the back of the chair without the actual cover. It'll look nicer but not too formal. you could get some nice seat cushions as well to dress it up, make it comfy, and not be too formal.
But don't stress too much about it, think when you're having your 10 year anniversary- will you care if the chairs were mismatched or not quite right?! It's not going to matter TOO much :)
Good luck and God Bless!

I would say yes because it definatly ties you look all together and really does make a huge difference. But, if the cost is just too much, then don't do it if it will put you in debt.
Call around to different party rental places and see who is the cheapest for the chair covers. The sashes, you can make yourself. Simply buy the spool of Tule (much cheaper than satin) cut and tie them around the chair. It might take you a couple of times to get the bows down, but you will. You can do this the night before on a practice chair and just slide them all on the day of. Saves a ton of money making sashes yourself! Best part, your bridal party can help you. Good luck.

Once your hall is decorated it will look beautiful and your guests are not going to notice the chairs. They will notice the effort and care you put into all your decorations. Chair covers have only recently become a fad in the past few years. Before that nobody had to cover their chairs. Don't stress about it, it will be fine.

I'm facing the same situation. I've checked out the cost of renting chair slipcovers and was really surprised to find that it is significantly cheaper to rent a different chair! The average rental place is charging $5.00 per slipcover and yet you can rent really nice chairs for between $1.19 and $3.50 each. Go figure! At $5.00 perslipcover it really would be much cheaper to sew up some simple covers of your own. Whatever you decide, just make sure to check out the prices of a few different retailers. And remember to have fun!

I think you already know that you want to put chair covers on. You don't have to being it's your wedding, but you already expressed your displeasure for the look of just folding chairs. You could go to a fabric shop and make your own. You have to figure what's important to you. The added cost for rental or having chairs you don't like. Good luck!

Absolutely not. It looks elegant but it is very costly to rent them. You could try using some tulle instead of chair covers. Tulle is cheaper and very pretty. We used it in September to do the columns and in the center of the tables along with candle from $1 store and real rose petals and candy in pastel colors it looked very nice.

If you think the chairs are ugly I would get the chair covers.

It is not necessary unless you demand it. Wedding is one and a life time moment. I suggest you to cover the chairs to match the tables. You can certainly find cheap materials. CONGRATS! It is not where that matters, it is who you are marrying to and who gives alot for you too!
