he was diagnosed with pneumonia on monday, he's been on antibiotic since, but recently he hasn't been drinking as much as he was/should, he's only had around 20 oz. in 24 hours.

But he's still as active as usual. Am I over-reacting?

Sorry, I'm only 21 and have 6546873 questions about fatherhood :)

Glad to hear he's been to a doctor already. Make sure to keep track of his weight to make sure he isn't losing too much water. As long as he stays active as usual, the worst part of it is for you staying up all night worrying.
The minute you get afraid about his health, you can return to the doctor or at least the nurse on duty for help.

Kids well cared for heal pretty quickly, fortunately.

If you go to the childcare or "Baby" section of the supermarket they sell a product called pedialyte. Its a great source of fluids for children. It has electrolytes and tastes pretty good so they enjoy drinking it.

They also make electrolyte candy.
Electrolytes are a specific kind of salt that causes the body to absorb fluids faster and more effectively.

For the actual cough, if you have a humidifier you may want to go to an herbalist and ask about using either witch hazel or Mullien to help expel the fluid in the lungs.

yes you really need to push the fluids cause it doesn't take much for a child to get dehydrated. If he doesn't seem to be drinking as much as you think he needs then try giving him other liquids, like Popsicle's, soup, or even jello.

If he is not drinking much, get him some popsicles. Any liquid is better than none - fill him up on the suckers if it helps keep him hydrated. Don't let him be too active.
