As I've said before, I am not bias to any one religion, but I think people mock God because not all their questions can be answered. They want instant gratification, and if they don't completely understand something they think it's wrong. They think that believing in God is being closed minded, however people who mock a religion simply because they do not understand it are the ones who are closed minded. Insecurities are usually the cause. Don't let them get you down. Stay strong in your beliefs, and you may be able to help someone else see, in God, what you see.
Also, saying that all Christians cram religion down every ones throat is being very stereotypical. Just because you've experienced a christian who trys to spread the word, doesn't mean that every single christian is exactly the same. Keep in mind there are many denominations in Christianity itself. Maybe some of you are too quick to judge?

Though many atheists don't care if people believe in God or not, others feel obligated to fight "oppressive religious bigotry."
This is a quote from atheists.org.
"We are constantly being overrun by people trying to get their ticket to Heaven at our expense, and if we don’t stand up and be counted we will lose the very freedom we hold most dear; freedom of thought..."
This kind of statement is quite common in atheist circles. It is inflammatory, illogical, and paranoid. Atheists say about religious people they cannot think logically, they are deluded, and believe in myths.
They tell believers they are bound by foolish antiquated beliefs and need to abandon their religious bigotry and become a 'free thinker' like them. In other words, they don't want believers to think the way they do.
They often use mockery of God, religious leaders, and the Bible as weapons to further their agenda. Sure this isn't the case with all atheists, but ridiculing attitudes are surprisingly prevalent and strong. Character assassination, half-truths, and out-of-context Bible quotes are typical tools used by many of them in attempts to make Christianity look bad.
Consider the following statements from Atheists.
"Godism is consistent with crime, cruelty, envy, hatred, malice, and uncharitableness."
"As long as religious purposes are served, ethics, inquiry and reason are abandoned."
Are these the statements of tolerance, impartiality, truth, and sound judgment? It seems that if the atheists who authored the above quotes were in power, with their views of religion being cruel, evil, and unreasonable, would they then either imprison the 'offenders' or legislate complete and total annihilation of all things religious? Who would then be full of hatred, malice, and bigotry? It is something to ponder. Does atheism really teach freedom? No. It teaches bondage for its adherents and for those who disagree with it.

I guess the best answer (or at least the one you'll get from me) is that people are afraid of what they don't understand. And obviously those who come here and bash Christianity don't have a clue of what it truly is.
They just take what they know- like "An eye for an eye" vs. "love thy neighbor as thyself" and twist the meaning of them around into a pretzel and try to make themselves look intelligent.
Some people actually do make good points and are actually seeking answers, but most are ignorant of the truth and afraid that if God is real and Christianity is real, then they are indeed doomed to eternity in hell.
So, their way of defense is criticism, belittlement, anger,et all.
The bible tells of this in many places both OT and NT. And if you look at the world at large, you can see that the end times are near, so Satan is launching an all-out attack to take as many with him as he can.
All we can do is pray for them, be patient with them, and remember that God loves them too.
And bury the bodies real deep so they never get found. (this is a joke, of course)

People seem angry. Perhaps the acrimony toward the Christian God is a result of the anger at being preached at so often. Maybe if Christians would allow others to not believe, or believe in different faiths, wthout being reminded of their supposed fate in hell, or being felt "sorry" for, and thus being looked down on, then perhaps that anger might diminish.

Maybe they bash on our Heavenly Father, just to test us, like not to get even or something.
Ofcourse how could we bash on NOTHING.
They have Nothing, they supposedly need nothing.
But I think they have a great Void, an Emptiness which is like a great hole right through their hearts, and there is not enough hate, or badmouthing or evil that can fill that great eternal emptiness, so they try to bring us down with them, as if that will make them feel whole or give them satisfaction.
Too bad it is not in our limited power to bring God into their heart.
Only HE has the power to do that.
We can only lead by example, and many of us, have a very difficult time in doing that.
We want to trust God, to lead us to eternity, but you know when someone calls you a name or flips you off when your driving and you just get super HOT, like boiling mad.
I guess that is me at times...Anyway, it is all just a test of our Faith.
For Him, not me.
He is the reason.
He is in control, or we are.
Have you given God total control of your life?
It is very difficult to do.
These people do not even want to give a little bit of control, to this so called imaginary God, which we, those of us who's hearts have been touched by the Holy Spirit, know with out a doubt that He is...Even we sometimes struggle...So imagine those who have not been touched by the Holy Spirit, how difficult God, the HolySpirit, and Jesus, a Sacrafice for all mankinds sin...To wipe away all the tears of mankind, to allow us an eternity in Paradise...
No they just will not ever get it, not unless He impresses Himself on their hearts.
Otherwise, they will always be our enemies.
They are those who we can pray for, and ask for God to come into their hearts.
But in their current state, they do not even want anyone to Pray for them that our brainwashing God, or our BOOK would influence them.
No we really have no power or control.
I used to worry too, but I have come to the conclusion, no matter how good the question seems to be, to me...
I always get it from them in the end, one way or another.
Douglas.

It is thru grace that those who bash the living God still lives, Jesus intecedes for the heathen, and they live in hope that one day they will repent, turn away from their own gods, and come to Christ for preparation. Those who bash God, are like those who disrespect parents, rebellious and inacessible, God is able; it is in his hands. When I stop rejected my father in heaven, I began to love my father on earth, my daugther eyes reflect the Light of Life within.

Because it is easier to bash than to seek the truth. Those who bash are in my opinion angry with GOD for personal reason. Proclaiming self righteousness (in their minds) absolves them from responsibility of obedience to GOD because they do not believe in GOD. The god of self is easier to follow with seemingly no responsibility for disobedience to the creator owner who we know to be our GOD. To belittle is an age old way of bringing others around to their point of view. They want others to think like them. To bring false justification for their own chosen path. Which is their GOD given right to think or believe as they wish.
The trick is to be like GOD. Forgive love and let GOD take care of fighting HIS own battles. They will fall in their own trap. GOD needs no defense He's GOD. HE sits in the heavens and laughs.

You have the constitutional right to worship god, trees, rocks. or whatever your superstitions compel you to believe. Now where your beliefs are legislated or impair progress or rights is where it is no longer a harmless thing. If instead of looking to an invisible man to solve their problems, people took affirmative action, they would have better outcomes. Earlier some JW's came to my door. I asked one of them for their address and they refused. My response was that I don't go to their house and educate them on science so why should they come to my house and try to proselytize me on their medieval beliefs.

Most people who do have faith in a religion find it hard to believe in something they can't see ... may be it scares them and they get defensive to the topic ... or may be they're just haters and want to make you look dumb for having faith ... don't let it bother you that's what most people are looking for ... they have a right to their opinion but there is no need to put down yours in the process
