First found in Cornwall where they were seated from very ancient times, before and after the Norman Conquest in 1066.

Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Richard Tallent, who sailed to Barbados in 1697; Elizabeth Talant sailed to Nova Scotia in 1839; Mary Tallent sailed to Nova Scotia in 1843; Mrs. Tallent settled with Bessie in San Francisco in 1852.

On ancestry.com, it shows that there were quite a few Talens that immigrated from the Netherlands in the early 1920s. They landed in NY, NY. Based on the limited number of people with this surname, I would guess that it is possible you are related to them if your family has been in the U.S. for a few generations.

It's really a neat website - you have to pay to get access to the info, but it's worth it!!
