I sometimes visit the science section, but the majority of questions there are asked by kids who want to get their homework done by someone else and it's just boring. Sometimes there are religious people there who ask serious questions about the theory of evolution, but it happens rarely.

You should also consider that not all atheists are knowledgable in science. I happen to be a biologist, but not all atheists are in some scientific field.

And you don't know how many of the people who use the science section are atheists. Mostly people there just want factual answers to scientific questions, don't ask for people's personal beliefs and don't write about theirs. It is possible that someone who gives a good and correct answer about the theory of evolution is himself religious. Not all religious people are creationists.

In the R&S section people write more about their personal beliefs and convictions than facts. This makes this section interesting for me. If I want to know facts I won't look for them in Yahoo Answers, there are better sources for them.

I'm not an atheist but it is there form of religion and spirtuality. putting it in a science question isn't worth the time when people looking in that section are looking for biology questions.

People use Yahoo Answers to get different views about things. Maybe they are looking for someone to prove them wrong.

The atheism is relevant in the R&S section, at least in some answers.

In most of the other sections, a person's religious veiws are unimportant.

I have never seen an aswerer in the Board Games area state, "I am Christian," for example.

It's my guess that atheists are in every section in approximately the same percentages.

Few people in the Biology section disagree with the theory of evolution. Also, the theory is used as evidence against God's existence. That's why there are so many questions and answers about it in R&S.

speaking of biology, why are theists denying evolution in the biology section? Or looking for god in the astrology section?

- belief and disbelief go together
- plenty of spiritual atheists out there
- some fundies keep claiming atheism is a religion
- open forum
- frankly, all religions should be under the mythology section

Yes it is! We are biological robots in a video game called life !!!
To us, religion and spirituality can only be understood by science, meaning the study of everything real. You, as a religious person, should be able to discuss your views in some " retarded" or "old thinking" or "arrogance contest" section. No offense.

I don't know if you've noticed, but atheists are almost never the ones asking "science" questions in R&S. It's religious people who can't understand that religious ideas don't apply to science. Meanwhile, I have yet to see (e.g.) a biologist lobbying to insert Wright's coefficient of relationship into the Lord's Prayer. Scientists aren't concerned with refuting or compromising religion. But religion IS concerned with defending its dogma, which frequently involves suppressing contradictory evidence from the world of science.

We aren't the ones asking science questions here.

The question should be why all evolution questions are not asked in the science section. I would be perfectly happy never to have to deal with monkeys in R&S again.

As far as percentages, I would guess that the adults in the science section (as opposed to students looking for homework help) have as great a percentage of Atheists and Agnostics as we do here. It's just that they don't discuss theology there.

Because here biology is discussed in opposition to faith-based Creationist systems. So an analogy would be a reading enthusiast talking about the benefits of literature over cinema in the film section.

Because religion is the opiate of the masses. You get drugged, get hallucinations, and lose control of your senses without knowing it. And yet you refuse to admit it. That's why we're not in the science section. We don't want you to miss this important fact.
