The exact details of the dreams are unimportant. It isn't always the same dream that makes me wake up crying, it's happened many times and the dreams are never the same. All I know is that I wake up crying or sobbing uncontrollably once or twice a month. My friends tell me that I'm repressed and my emotions are releasing themselves in my sleep. Should I be worried about this, do I need counselling?

It is a release of negative emotion, frustration, or fear. Due to repression or denial, sometimes people are unable to express their feelings. In the dream state some of our defense mechanisms may relax and an emotional release occurs. Some emotional dreams may be compensatory in nature. Thus, if you never cry in daily life, you may cry in your dreams

Counselling is a great thing, even if you don't think you have problems, it's always great to get things out to someone who isn't effected by them (ie friends, partner, family...)

I also used to wake up crying, I would also scream in my sleep and kick and punch. I don't do this anymore, and I do see a counselor (to deal with a few problems)

It may be that you are suppressing feelings, even from a long time ago.

I would definatly recommend seeing someone.

Goodluck :) Hope I helped

Yes, I think you should seek help from a psychiatrist on this. You could be on the onslaught of something that may be dangerous to you in the future. While, you're are at it, go for the Shock Treatments as well!

See a professional couldn't hurt (besides the ole pocket book) and could help you get to the root of the problem.

sounds like moms right-but somehow its very emotional to you. if you remember any of it- write it down and there are dream interpretation books available. good luck honey, they can really set the mood for your whole day. if you can find the meaning they may stop.
