My fiance and I have booked a reception hall about an hour away from our hometown. We are concerned about not being a regular patron at a church and are seeking advice on how to find one thats closer to our reception hall. Any ideas?

Well, I mean is it practical to think a priest would perform a marraige ceremony for a couple who don't regularly attend their church? Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this?

If you are particularly looking for a catholic church, you might have more difficulties. Some churches rent their facilities, others don't want the hassle. And usually you have to use that church's clergy.

Call the pastor or church office. Usually this request goes before a church board so don't get upset if you are denied. Make sure you understand the contract before signing, such as the use of music & proper wedding attire.

Are their any big colleges in that town? Where I live the college near by has a beautiful chapel and alot of people that don't belong to a church get married their and have a JP or Notary perform the ceremony. You could also find a non denominational church and explain the situation to the Pastor. I will say however that most Pastors that I know require pre marital counseling. Their are weddings at my church often but the Pastor doesnt perform the ceremony. My friend just got married in a baptist church and had a notary perform the ceremony.

We had a similar problem. We just moved to a new state and are not members of a church, yet. I would suggest contacting any local colleges or universities and checking to see if they have a chapel you could use.
If not, there are many churches who will let you use their facilites and minister as long as you are able to come up with the fee. We called a church that was close to our reception site. The only requirement they have (other than the fee) is that we attend premarital counseling..and we were going to do that anyway.
good luck!

You talk to your priest, and see if he is able to perform the ceremony at the other church. Could be done if he is amenable; he'll talk to the priest there. Or, could have them concelebrate. You can never have too many priests - we had three marry us!

Look on mapquest. Search for churches in that specific area.
