The brand of canned cat food my cat eats is on the list of contaminated foods and yesterday he peed in the house a few times. We also got some snow and he doesn't like to go outside to do his business when it's like that out and he is at least 12-13 years old. Do you think the peeing could be from the food affecting his kidneys or just from not being able to hold it until the snow melts? A few weeks ago he also peed in the house when no one was able to let him out.

We don't have a kitty litter box since he has always gone outside but we are planning on getting one if he keeps this up.

He doesn't seem sick in any other way, he even played this morning which he usually never does. Right now he is laying on the floor licking himself like normal.

BTW he is a ragdoll if that helps with anything.

From what you have written it sounds like he has done this before and if he doesn't like snow that could probably explain his lack of interest in going outside to do his business rather than contaminated food. Since you are sure your cat ate some of the contaminated food it's best just to watch them for signs of sickness like throwing up, loss of appitite, dehydration, lethargia as well as loss of hair because cats tend to get bald spots when they are sick. Another thing to watch for is grooming habits. Many cats stop grooming if they get sick and their fur looses alot of its luster.

I also would suggest getting a litter box for inside the house. Your cat isn't a kitten anymore and will start to loose the ability to "hold it" as she gets older so it may be better for you and her to let her get used to the litter now and that way when you can't take her out or when she doesn't want to go out she can just go to the litter.

I would take kitty to the vet and have a urinalysis and major renal panel to rule out renal failure (that could be caused by the food or just age). Please don't take offense to this; I think it's cruel that you don't have a litter box for those days when he can't go out. How would you feel if you didn't have a place to do your business? There are only so many hours any living being can hold it in (the older, the harder) If taking him to the vet is a financial burden, get a litter box and prepare yourself to deal with the ailments of aging and/or sick cat!

The other day, my cat peed in the house, which was unusual. He's a male, and I think his erratic behavior this past week is due to mating season. He's mad I wouldn't let him out (his paw is injured and he has a cold).
A side effect from the food is kidney failure. When that happens in people, the kidneys shut down, don't work, and he would be retaining fluids and bloating instead of peeing, I think. I read about the recall, too.

If your cat gets sick then take it to a vet. If not then just forget about it. That stuff will barely kill a flea, I doubt a cat could eat enough of it to have any affect at all.

Take to the Vet right away. I am sure they can flush out the cats system to make sure the bad food is out.

Check the information on the package you fed from and see if it is from the list of products being recalled. Depending on the codes, you'll know if you should worry.

Check their website.
