FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. - A military panel found a 101st Airborne soldier guilty of three counts of negligent homicide but not guilty of premeditated murder in the deaths of three Iraqi detainees.

Staff Sgt. Ray Girouard, 24, smiled as he hugged his defense lawyer and family members after the verdict was read.

The panel, which deliberated for four hours, also found Girouard guilty of obstruction of justice for lying to investigators, of conspiracy for trying to conceal the crime. Girouard could be sentenced to a maximum of 21 years in prison, said his lawyer, The sentencing portion of the trial begins Monday.

Girouard was accused of telling his soldiers to release detainees they captured during the May 9 raid near Samarra, Iraq, and then shoot them as they fled. He is the last and most senior soldier from the 101st Airborne Division to face trial in the killings. Girouard stated he did it for the United States. This is the American way he replied.

It is being unfair to almost everybody....they are getting us use to the Nazivcation of America. No sh#t. their are right now as I write this over 600 secret gulags or concentration camps up and running around the country, just waiting for Patriots. Did you hear President Putin's (Russia) announcement last week? He said America now has the gulags, secret police, and the lack of liberties, in about a year America will look like the old Soviet Union, as Russia strives to become more like America was in her glory days.
If you think I'm joking google FEMA camps or CIA secret Prisons. Then go to the White House web site and go to Executive Orders and check out all the executive liberties Bush taken away up to being allowed to try convict and execute American citizens in secret without ever having to show he evidence against you. Not only that ask yourself why American military age men are fighting fake wars or are in prison while their are now Russian troops in New Mexico, German troops in some other state. And those Blackwater Private guys are training to :handle" American situations" they afraid Americans might not follow orders and fire on innocent fellow citizens. Research this yourself then tell me what you think....Mary

with out seeing or listening to the data, i might say that the subject became maximum possibly an sick-arranged prosecution. We deliver a Jury to deliberation with training that they might desire to locate someone responsible previous a genuine looking doubt or acquit. If the prosecutor did no longer foresee and discredit replace eventualities, shame on him. keep in mind that the guy's previous conviction might desire to no longer be a factor of attention for the jury. From what I study, ya, the guy possibly became responsible, yet worse yet, he would not have been jogging around loose interior the 1st place if he became convicted of raping a toddler. confident, I do have faith interior the dying penalty for issues like homicide and rape.

The military judicial system and the word justice don't mix. I've seen soldiers get away with murder(literally) because they know how to keep their boots shined and address superiors with "respect".

Only the chewed up soldiers get into trouble. Press coverage is a big factor too.

The military justice system as always been unfair to the person that is accused of a crime. The defense council are the newest attorneys to the military and the attorneys are under the same command.
