Most Irish beers are an aquired taste. I personally love Guiness Draft. Killians although not totally Irish is alright and Bass is also pretty good. But I totally recommend a Black and Tan If you have access. A Black and Tan is half Bass and half Guiness. The Bass mixed in help people who think Guines is too strong because is weakens the stoute flavor of Guiness.

Try something like Bass. If you can find Smithwyck's at least that's Irish. I love Harp and Guinness, but they may be too extreme for you, but then again, you may find you like a stout like Guinness! What could be the worst thing if you hate it? Maybe it would be best to go out for a beer, then you're just spending money on one beer instead of a whole six pack.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

If you are new to beer, start out with the light beers.........since its St. Patricks Day, give Rolling Rock a try. My favs are Miller Lite, Keystone Lite, Mich Ultra and Coors lite. On St. Pats, you should have whichever one you choose dyed green

For people who either haven't tried beer before, or those who don't care for the taste of beer, I would highly recommend "Red Stripe". It's a Jamaican lager that's really smooth in taste & somewhat sweet in flavor. I think its a perfect choice for someone looking to either try a new beer or to try beer for the first time. Drink it ice cold of course & enjoy! I think any beer connoisseur would agree that its a safe choice for the taste buds.

Stay away from Guiness, particularly the extra stout..you will hate beer forever if you try that first (you can put a straw in it and it will stand straight up it is so thick). Killian's Red isn't nearly as thick....or take a look at this:
http://webpages.csus.edu/~sac49690/
..print it off, take it to the bar with you and go down the list!!

I recommend Picaroon's Irish Red, Macardle's Ale, or Beamish Ale, for starters.

Where do you live? Stay away from Budweiser it will give you diareaha. Coors is fairly mild and you will probably like the taste. I recently tried a beer called full sail from Oregon I really like it but is only in specialty or huge liquor stores.
