How long did it take or why did you not feel better?

approx 3 days after you rid your system of alcohol, you will experience a slump or depression

within a week or so and upon continuing to make positive changes, i felt better

Yes, you will feel better. You might be a little foggy for awhile, but it clears. I am sorry that one of the answers says to forget about AA. I have been an active member for 6 years and it has changed my life. Look up Alcoholics Anonymous in the Yellow Pages and they will connect you with a member you can talk to and ask questions. Give yourself a chance!

Yes, you will be a healthier person if you abstain from alcohol. You will feel much lighter in yourself. It won't take very long, just a few days.

That depends on how much you drink. If you feel you're drinking too much and that it's becoming problematic, then yes, abstaining will make you feel better. I could go on forever, but find this a very personal topic. I'd really like to discuss this with you further.
