Ok so this question caught my attention simply because this is another one of those often asked questions in the Vets office, usually it's more of "Why does my dog bark so much," or "How can I get my dogs to stop barking at everything."

Well let's turn this question around, why do you talk so much?
It is the same answer for humans as dogs. It is a form of communication. Just because you can't understand them doesn't mean they aren't talking.

Barking is just like another language and has different barks/words for different events or actions or whatnot. Take for example a howl could signify loneliness (not saying it does, just an example) or a deep low growl with low barks could signify danger.

hope this give you a different outlook on dog barking. Try listening to a dogs different barks and distinguishing between moods and events you may learn alot about your dog, or even dogs in general.

Dogs bark differently depending on the breed. All dogs bark their feelings. If they're wanting something, they bark. If they see another dog, they bark. Its their way of talking to us and each other when they arent using body language.

Dogs really do not bark a lot. They bark when a new Peron is in your house or when they want to play. Trust me, I know this because I have a dog.

i turn the water hose on my neighbor dog. it won't shut up sometimes at night. yap yap yap. I don't know why people buy a fluffy little dog and CHAIN it up in the backyard.
