If you use the biotic, and burning of fossil fuels, you could possibly show the products from burning makes more carbon dioxide, causing increasing "greenhouse gas" and warming the earth. Also the production of acid rain. And depending on what is burnt, there may be toxic compounds formed, maybe nitrates. There is waste products from mining, as well as possible environmental problems of destroying of habitat. And it takes energy to mine, transport, process and distribute the mined material to then be made into products for consumers, all taking energy to do.

I hope this gives you some ideas.
