Many small dogs are prone to urinary tract infections..they will pee in plain site to tell you ..does it have an usual odor? do you see any blood or darker colored urine ?Is he peeing more frequently ? you are going to have to take him to the vet ..antibiotics will normally clear this right up..liquid vitamin C also helps very much and you can buy at vitamin store.... use nature's miracle to get rid of urine ..it takes a little time but actually eats it up..

You are right you are her mommy now. I have a 2 year old Shih-tzu and I love him very much. Bear is his name and I got him when he was 6 weeks old also. I know his dog mommy and daddy and have helped in the delivery of several litters including his. He was the first born of his mothers first litter. He was the biggest when he was a pup now he is the smallest of them all. The thing I have learned about Shih-tzu potty training is that you need to be on a routine. Mine is in the morning he eats his breakfast then he goes out side to potty if he pottys inside I scold him and put him out side and tell him to potty outside. I tell him he is a bad boy make sure he understands use a harsh voice. Show him his no no potty place but when he pottys out side tell him he is a good boy for mommy and love on him. You could evan give him a treat if you want to. At night at first put him in a dog box with no water or food. After a while my dog goes in my room and sleeps in his bassinet with my door closed so he cant get out. I am not saying he is perfect we have accidents sometimes but if I stick with the routine things go well.

Check with a vet and make sure there are no medical problems. The first time or two may have just been an accident. But not that his scent is there, he thinks it is all right to go there. Clean your couch with a good enzyme cleaner, I use Natures Miracle. With any enzyme cleaner, it needs to be applied a number of times before it works completely. Hopefully it is just a cushion, and you can remove it to clean it. The directions are on the bottle.

The most obvious answer is that if it's a male it could be marking it's teritory. He could be doing this if there is another dog in the house.
I used to have a springer spaniel, who used to pee when she got excited, especially if someone she hadn't seen in a while had just walked in or if you played with her a lot.
Other than that, my boyfriend has a labrador who has cancer and now suffers from a lot of infections. When she has a bladder infections she tends to lose control of her bowels and bladder, and can't control her pee or poo. She's be walking around peeing and not even realising she's doing it.
My advice is take him to the vet and get him checked out
Good Luck :-)

my guess he is marking his territory! OR he smells some other odor pee, blood, food, whatever it is he might be trying to make sure everyone knows it is his now! Prolbably pee though. cause dogs pee usually in the same spot that is why they sniff to find their own odor or to cover up someones elses. my suggestion would be to clean the couch with a carpet cleaner and attatchment. if it stays there and he keeps smelling it he will probably keep peeing there! ok hope I am of some help. good luck!

It could be a bladder infection. I suggest taking him to the vet. If it is a bladder infection, you'll want to remove the couch from the home. If you don't he'll continue to pee on it even though he's over the infection because the couch has his "smell"

Is it a male? Fixed? If it is a male, he may be marking his territory. If he is not fixed, it could help.
