Twenty-minute so-called "power naps" work for a lot of people. Even by simply taking periodic "eye breaks" can do wonders. Think about it, all day your eyes are continuously moving and focusing. Just close your eyes once and a while for a few minutes, take some slow deep breaths and regain your center.
To get better sleep at night, avoid food and alcohol at least two hours before going to bed.

I was told by my english/drama teacher that THE Albert Einstein only got an average of around 4 hours or sleep every day. I was told that it was the time that he woke up, every day, that saved him from being tired. Your body clock of course has a rhythm, and if you wake up every day it keeps the rhythm steady, without fluctuation. I haven't tried it because i lead a busy lifestyle and haven't had the time to organise what time to wake up and stuff like that haha. Anyway, maybe you can try it out?

Nightmares are better than no sleeping. Since she's your friend, try getting or making her a dream catcher to help stop the nightmares.

Try yoga or meditation. Of course, that will also take some time out of your day... but proportionally it can be interesting, and it has considerable benefits on one's health, mental as well as physical.
