Heartbroken, is there a valid reason why you should avoid her? Eventhough you don't feel the same about her, that's not reason to avoid her. In fact, it will only lead to resentment on her part. There's nothing wrong with her being in love. We can't control people from falling in love. If you've been in love, you know what the feeling is. What you should do is just act normal and act like a normal friend. When she looks at you, pretend that you didn't see and make no eye contact. Everytime she passes you a subtle signal, just pretend that you're aloof. When you get into a conversation, speak to her like she's you're younger sister, and be golly about it. She'll get the message soon enough. You know, people can also feel if you just want to be friends and nothing else.
Bottomline: don't do anything to alienate her. Remember that she's still your friend.

If I did not feel the same way then I would just treat her normally. By this age we don't sit around worrying about things as much. If she came on to me I would just tell her that the age difference was a problem for me and let her down easy.
If a guy in this situation is paying a lot of attention then he is interested. If he is avoiding then he is not interested.

To my own discredit, I'd probably pay a lot of attention to her, even if I had absolutely no interest in her, because knowing that she had a big crush on me would feed into my narcissistic quirk. I'd lead her on, just so she'd continue to make me feel like a stud. It really is despicable, but that's probably what I'd do. At least for a while. Then I might feel bad enough about it to distance myself from her.

I am 36 and I don't consider being in my 30's old. How young are you? !5? My definition of older is 50's. But to answer your question, when I was 23 I had a 39 year old man (my boss) drool over me. He knew I was off limits because of our company policy. He gave me lots of attention, too.

Neither one. I would treat her like I treat any other coworker. I wouldn't be mean to her and avoid her altogether, and I certtainly wouldn't pay more attention to her than normal. I would treat her fairly, like everyone else there.

I'm in my forties is that really, really old? I would be flattered by a younger girl liking me but I think that I would keep my distance without being rude.

i would tell her how i feel and ask she respect that. i would remain her friend no matter what but if she tried to push the issue, then i would avoid her to prevent temptation. you cannot make someone love you and if you try, you will only destroy your friendship with him. as long as he knows, that should be enough. let him decide how he feels.
