I drink very moderately, either just one beer or a single glass of wine with a meal-generally once or twice a week. Am I in a minority? Because listening to some of the drinking comments (hangovers, partying, ect.) I get the feeling that drinking in moderation is rare these days.

Some people on here who are very anti-drinking make it sound as though the choices are either abstaining from alcohol or becoming a drunkard. Not everyone who drinks is an alcoholic. There is a happy medium.

And no, the point of drinking is not to get drunk. I genuinely like the taste of a nice glass of wine with a good gourmet meal-or a cold beer on a really hot day.

Much more so than those who don't drink, yes. :)

Seriously, I do a small glass of red wine a day (good for the heart) but rarely exceed more than a couple bottles of beer a week. I've seen drunkards in my time, and am not impressed. Worst is the binge-drinking going on at my local University, kids think it's hip to get smashed every weekend. Never mind many of them are getting rolled, mugged, hurt in accidents, sexually assaulted, or fail their classes.

I think you are a very responsible person. I drink a glass of red wine in my supper every night. It's good for the heart and help digest my meal. People boast of being drank to be "in". Is there a bench mark to drunkenness? I can act drank or I can get really drunk. I won't do either to impress people but because I like it. Legally, the only qualified person to answer that..... is the cop analyzing your breath (DUI).

I think it is really an age and lifestyle. You don't often see a bunch of 60 year old grannies doing tequila slammers all night. Well not where I come from.

I don't think you are in the minority. And not everyone who drinks get drunk each and every time.

Believe it or not, a social drinker is one whom will only drink on birthdays (1 drink only), holidays, such as X-Mas (1 drink only). Anyone else that drinks daily whether it is 1 glass of wine or 1 beer has the potential of becoming or is alcoholic. Please, I don't make the rules, just a messenger. Drinking in moderation does have the potential of causing one to begin drinkng excessively. If you are one of the lucky who can drink moderately, good for you.

i think it varied on the person! i have days when i just want to slam a few shots and get a nice buzz and there are days when i just want a glass of wine with dinner! but there are also days when i come home (mostly on weekends) and i drink the hole bottle of liquor or wine! so i believe it is based on the individual person!

hmm u make me feel sad as I can't drink these days (my wife doesn't like it). Anyway, if they drink, it is upto their excitement. Quantity doesn't matter - quality matters. Quantity is a case to case basis, individual choice or forced choice. So don't worry abt where u fit in. Just consider u r in the drinkers list (And there is no good drinker and bad drinker).

Usually, the case because is difficult to control. Medical research find that moderate drinking is good for your health, beyond that can damage your health, so how true ?

What is the point of drinking if you're not going to get drunk? You might as well just get a Diet Coke and save yourself some money, then.

Most people do drink to get a buzz on. But, no most people don't drink themselves to oblivion.
