In 1992, the UN organized the Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) (which was joined by most countries, including the US) because of the concern "that human activities have been substantially increasing the atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases, that these increases enhance the natural greenhouse effect, and that this will result on average in an additional warming of the Earth’s surface and atmosphere and may adversely affect natural ecosystems and humankind"
It was not until 14 later that Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" was released. As a former vice-president, he may get a lot of attention, but you can't credibly claim that he manufactured the concern about global warming. The world knew about global warming before Al Gore. And the world would still be justifiably worried even without Al Gore's efforts.

If you think that Mr. Gore invented the idea of global warming you are very much mistaken. The first person to suggest that carbon dioxide was partially reponsible for keeping the Earth warmer than it otherwise might be was Svante Arrhenius in 1896. Yes, 1896. Though better measurement of the infrared absorption of carbon dioxide early in the 20th century showed he was incorrect in detail the idea was correct overall. Better calculations were done in 1960 and since then scientists have known that atmospheric carbon dioxide contributes to the warming of the Earth.
There is even a mathematical relationship between the concentration and the absorption of energy, which is actually first or maybe second year science stuff these days.
It appears that Mr. Gore's production may have been overstated, but you have to SHOUT to wake some people up.
The arguments presented against a connection between human activity, accumulation of CO2 (which I have personally measured over the dozen years after 1976) and artifical global warming are of the same kind that were used against legislation to reduce industrial pollution in the 1960s and 70s. And they come from the same sort of people.

The apologists for reality are the ones pulling the scam on people like you.
Sorry - you need to wake up and smell the coffee. How can all those scientists be scamming? How can the scientific evidence be presented as a hoax?
The hoax comes from the fact that the big businesses which will lose out are pulling the wool over the eyes of citizens like yourself.
Al Gore is simply a messenger with a very powerful voice. Look beyond the man and see the message. Stop living a lie and get out from under the fear. If we all pull together we CAN affect the change which is so desperately needed and actually leave a legacy which our children's children will thank us for. At the moment, this is not the case!

Al Gore has nothing at all to do with the science behind global warming. He is in no way responsible for any of the solid data about global warming. He is not singlehandedly causing global warming. He's just an actor.
His movie may have been overdramatic, but his message is backed by 99+% of all scientists. They may disagree on some of the details, but not on the basic message. Global warming is real, it's not natural, it's caused by us. And it is a serious threat to our country.
Here's some solid information about the basic scientific agreement on global warming and just a little of the data underlying it.

Not from some environmental extremists, but from the most respected scientific organizations in the world. Practically every scientific organization publicly supports the reality of global warming.
The people quoted below are hardly fans of Al Gore. They don't get their information from "An Inconvenient Truth", they get it from the best scientists in the world. None of these people are fools, or environmental crazies. You may not respect them all, but surely you respect some.
"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."
James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.
"The overwhelming majority of atmospheric scientists around the world and our own National Academy of Sciences are in essential agreement on the facts of global warming and the significant contribution of human activity to that trend."
Russell E. Train, Republican, former environmental official under Presidents Nixon and Ford
"We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late. The science is clear. The global warming debate is over."
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican, Governor, California
"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."
John McCain, Republican, Senator, Arizona
"These technologies will help us become better stewards of the environment - and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change."
President George Bush

Global warming is happening and that doesn't bother me. What does bother me is that there are so many of the herd mentality who take the man made global warming theory at face value and run with it. They don't look into who's supporting it and who's refuting it and what either side has to gain or lose by their beliefs.
Thirty years ago some of us thought we'd be wearing parkas in July right now. In 30, 50, 100 years there will still be someone screaming, "The sky is falling." For as long as I'm here, I have reality to worry about and that doesn't include the end of life as we know it because of global warming.

Absolutely.
Global warming is true but his reason is the biggest hoax of all time. If he truly believed it he would have done something as Vice President of the most powerful nation on earth. He would not have waited and made a documentary as a nobody in the film world.
The earth has went through uncountable heating and cooling periods just as a body uses homeostasis to regulate itself.

Al Gore isn't intelligent enough to mastermind anything of importance. Global warming, as far as i'm concerned is a real threat to our future and regardless of whether or not global warming exists, our treating this planet like a renewable resource when it isn't is going to come back and bite us in the behind.
