What do the ES, Highline, SXT and other abbreviations when it comes to different models of cars? more specifically the Neon..I drive a 2000 4 door ES Highline sedan and just wonder what that means compared to, say, a regular baseline model! thanks!

The es Highline sedan means that it will have more features such as power windows, locks, cruise control, etc. They are the same car, just a little different. I am not positive, but I think that also 2000 they dropped the DOHC engine, so you could only get the SOHC, but that could have been in 01. After that, in the sxt and such, they offered a magnum SOHC that put out more horsepower. Probably, the most different neon is the SRT-4. This is Chrysler's fast, sporty compact. It has a 2.4 liter DOHC (verses a 2.0 in the regular neon), turbo, inter cooler, and other various performance and body changes. This is like if you compare it to another car you know, lets take a chrysler town and country for example. Base, you have the T&C without too many features. Then you move up to the LX. You get more features and more options. Then you move up to the Touring and Limited. These are the highest, where you can get the larger engine, more options, and different some different bumpers and such. Good luck with you neon!!

And if you ever need help with it, go to dodgeforum.com

They are the largest forum site for dodge and these guys really know what they are talking about. My name on there is Jr. Mechanic

Auto manufacturers use these designations to identify each model which is distinct based upon features and trim levels. Typically lowest to highest may be something like base, mid level, premium/sporty and special. The model designations may be created or retired by model year to appeal to certain buying public trends and purchase prices. For example your '00 upscale Neon ES (the first of the second generation) has fog lights as factory standard equipment, which was not available on the lower line SE. Models differ in an infinite variety of equipment. One model may have a leather-wrapped steering wheel or one may have styled aluminum wheels or a high-performance engine as standard equipment. The "Highline" designation appeared as the middle model in the first generation Neons ('95 through '99) The "SXT" model did not appear until '03 (?) as a middle level entry. The model designations may or may not be an acronym for a name. The Neon "R/T " (which did not appear in '00) is a traditional Dodge moniker for "Road/Track." I have never heard of "ES" meaning anything except a factory model designation. The web site http://www.neons.org/ is an excellent reference for Neon information.

There are just different trim levels. There where only 2 engines available in 2004 and they are both the same size at 2,000 cc's.
