Lorikeets are individuals. There is no set time to when he will learn new words. Just talk to him. Say what you want him to learn to say with lots of inflection and emphasis. He'll soon pick it up. I used to breed Rainbows, and most of my babies could say "Yummy" before they had all of their feathers! My oldest Lorikeet Pepsi (RIP Little Buddy) had a vocab of around 50 words and even more sentences. He had those mastered by the time he was 5.

Some lorikeets talk better than others. Be patient with him and don't base your affection for the bird on how well it talks. I've owned many lories & lorikeets. Some talk very clearly and some only mumble. None of them have a huge vocabulary and the maximum they seem to be able to learn is 3 syllables. They like words with "z" and "s" sounds like "kiss". ( I had a rainbow lorikeet named Prism and she loved her name, said it constantly, and all my other birds learned it from her in just the few weeks I had her--and she learned to say one of my bird's names in only 5 days.)

ok that is one beautiful bird! I would not care if it talked or not. BEAUTIFUL!!!
There's no specific time table for when a bird will start talking. They are just as individual as we human beings are. Lories can be rather good talkers. Just talk to the bird a lot. They tend to pick up the words you say with most emphasis, so be animated when talking to him and priase his attempts to mimic you. He'll soon start picking up words. Lorikeets thrive on praise! So whenever your bird does well, be sure to praise him profusely! Offering yummies such as sultanas is great for encouragement as well. Also try putting a tape player and like a learning the english (or whatever) language tapes and play it while you are not home. You might be surprised!!! ok hope I helped!!! Good luck!

He may never develop a large vocabulary. Don't love him any less. Lorikeets are not known for their talking ability. I hope that's not the only reason you got a parrot. I've got 3 caiques that I've had for nearly 4 years and none of them talk (they mumble and "whisper"). I do not care if they ever really learn any more.
