When she's about to have the puppies she will most likely want to be in a quite area away from everyone. You will notice her straining, and she may whimper and cry. If it looks like she has been pushing for more then 1/2 hour you should take her to the vet. Most dogs have no trouble but keep an eye on her.

Close to whelping, you may want to take your pets temperature using a rectal thermometer. Normal temperature is approximately 102 degrees. About 24 hours before labor begins, the mother dog's temperature will drop about 2 degrees. Also, you will notice milk production from the breasts. Just before labor, your pet may act restless. You may see a greenish discharge from the vaginal region. At this time you will notice uterine contractions. The expulsion of each puppy is preceded by a greenish, fluid-filled sac. Each pup is attached to a placenta by an umbilical cord. It is considered normal for puppies to be born either head first or breach....Please look article!!

ps: Although the majority of dogs will give birth without the need for assistance, problems can arise which require veterinary attention. It is important to closely monitor your pet during birthing and seek veterinary care if you have any concerns. Look article:http://www.askedweb.com/askedweb/Problems_At_Birth/

If she does not have them in a pair of days, or you spot she is in misery, take her on your vet. in any different case, get her a place waiting and wait it out.
