Common man avoids police for seeking help. How can we change this scenario in India?

They could start by not being criminals themselves and end with not treating every person as if they were criminals. It really is more of a "guilty until proven innocent" mentality with them.

I guess you have to ask yourself why the ordinary man avoids the police in times of need. There must be some historical reason for this. Perhaps it is previous corruption or something else. It is necessary to instill confidence in the people by having a police force which is lawful and above reproach. Change takes time, just look what Mahatma Gandhi achieved in India, so I guess anything is possible with the right motivation and ideals.

For one the Indian Police are so dang corrupt that its a wonder anyone goes to them.
