Meditation works. Ironically clearing your mind can help you solve problems that have been weighing heavily on your mind.
Dream therapy is another alternative. Read a good book or two on dream analysis (the legitimate kind, not the 'if you dream of flowers you'll attend a funeral in six months' silly sort). It's easy to get in touch with your subconscious mind through dreams, if you focus on that. And the subconscious -- that gloriously nonjudgmental thing it is -- usually knows more than we know about what's best for us.

The good news is you can't really lose touch with it, because it is you. It is always available, right where "you" are.
I pause several times a day and just feel the inner self/higher self. I use words or pictures/silent thoughts...I examine the contents of my conscious mind; I keep track of my beliefs, change those I don't want to keep, and replace them with beliefs that help me live a more enriched life here in the physical.
Take a book, one you treasure...could be a spiritual book, but doesn't have to be; set it on the desk, close it, and ask a question. Then when you feel ready, open the book, see what you find. After awhile, you can do this without a book, as you develop the ability (that you always had) to communicate with yourself.
Train yourself to understand that circumstances are not something that comes from the "outside", to mess up your plans, or your path...what we call circumstances are always part of our "growth". No matter what happens, you are always where and when you should be.

I guess we are all a little lost. Even when we do know the 'right choices' that sadly doesn't stop others/circumstances from allowing it to be. Self belief/confidence( how mine has been drained) is so personal. Sometimes we have to convince ourselves. As for methods..... tap your own bidy - this reduces stress. I would say exercise, but my own body becomes lazy, so i'd be a hypocrite. Listen to classical music and contemplat. But remember- all humans are fairly confused so maybe....just maybe you are searching for the wrong thing. Good luck.

I'm afraid of everything all the time and to combat this I use the power of fight or flight in a reverse method. I walk into that which I fear, turning the the urge to flee into the urge to charge. It's tapping into the adrenaline, straight from the heart. Once You get the hang of it it works really well. It's very powerful and addresses a multitude of situations, certainly worth a try or two anyway. Good luck.

I can't believe some of the answers. There is no 'higher self', there is only you.
If you are chickening out because you foresee future complication you are either making a prudent decision based on available data or you are chickening out because you are afraid of getting hurt in some way (physical/emotional/material)
Most chickening out happens in human relationships, and sadly that is where we should do the least running away.

~~~Lost,,,, The Technique is Meditation. The goal to aim for is that part of your Higher Self where your sense of Intuition resides. This is also called The Intuitive Self.
Always try to make your decisions when your rested.
Take a walk and think about your choices.
Weigh the benefit of that choice ,,ask is it worth the risk?
And then close your eyes and see where you want too be.
Good luck !!
one of the simplest ways to tune into your subconcious is to use a pendulum. It can be any weighty object suspended from a string or chain.
Ask questions you know the answer to and establish the direction of the swing. FOr me it swings counterclockwise for yes, clockwise for no, and in a strait back and forth for something that cannot be answered yes or no.
Now, ask your question. the pendulum will use your unconscious movements to answer.
I tap into the Almighty Source of Power, wisdom and Truth, God. Prayer allows me to tap into that source and be led by the direction that He has for my life. Prayer is as simple as conversation. Tell God what you are dealing with and ask for His direction and wisdom.
Take control of what goes on in your mind by filling it with God's Word - the Bible! Process it mentally, apply it to each circumstance and stand on it.
