Yes. In fact, that's originally why cows became sacred in India. With many mouths to feed it made more sense to keep the milk than to kill the cow that could produce sustenance for your family everyday. Cows milk nourished many, literally preventing starvation and malnutrition for some. It was the beginning of a symbiotic relationship ... Meaning they needed cows and cows needed them. The respect became worshipful ... the gods surely must have sent the cows to save their families. Thus cows became honoured and sacred.
Now it is a religious tradition.

It is not the case that people in India drink the cow's milk.
Rather it depends upon different people. One wish to drink it but the other don't. However cow's (only domestic) milk is considered the most pure and nutritious. Most people,they say, the milk of cow is very good for the newborn ones.I even know a lady who did this on account of her grandson.

In some parts of India people still drink Cow milk wherever its still easily available as Cow milk is healthy and Cow milk keeps a persons soft hearted and is good for heart and immune system is good.

99% of Indians drink Cow milk irrespective of religion. The Hindus who constitute 87% of the total population also offer Cow's milk to their God during worship. It is the only substitute to the human milk for a new born human baby.

Indians too are human beings, rather more cultured and civilised. Milk of cow is for human consumption. Indians too drink it. Probably many innocents do not know it.

Muslims, christians & other religious groups drink cow milk. Hindus drink cow urine.
