I am not an atheist but...
When I question Christianity, it seems viewed more as an attack. As though I am trying to pick their faith apart just to annoy them. Not because there are some honest questions and problems with their faith.
I have seen some atheists ask honest questions, and get nasty answers back. Which doesn't do a whole lot for the defense of Christianity.
I think peopel get into defense mode at time - and because they are so used to seeing attacks on their faith, they believe everyone is doing this.
Of course it goes both ways.

~~~Crazyfar,,,, Two factors determine whether it is "an attack",,,or not. Firstly, is the christian so sensitive that it deems ALL contrary opinions an "attack", or just this one. This would classify as a "Perceived Attack". Thus it can only be a delusion, but nevertheless to the christian is still '"an attack". Most importantly however is what was in the heart of the atheist is what makes it "real" or only "perceived", as an "attack".
Some would find it as an attack some wouldnt. I wouldn't because the whole concept of christianity is that everyone has the right to do what they want while complying to the rules and regulations (10 commandments). I enjoy debating/conferring with Atheists it's the best thing since sliced bread.
Yes it is seen as an attack. Unfortunately, it should be delivered as an opinion. Religions are belief systems and your beliefs are allowed to be different than mine. I do not argue with someone because he dislikes strawberries, just because I love them.
I will do my best to not come down on a non-Christian but I will honor an intelligent debate. That is what winning souls is, not preaching about someone's faults.
My ex, the Atheist, could question Christianity all he liked, but he got my panties in a roll when he questioned , no, ridiculed, "my faith" in Christianity , eventually, for the last time. I saw him as the pigheaded bully who was afraid that, for once, I could actually withstand his abuse and choose to leave his sick spineless, soul less shell muttering alongside the road to life.
Self defense is justifiable and legally defensible.
If you don't stick up for your beliefs, then what good are you?
(Kind of sorry about the rant. But, not enough to edit it out.)
Thanks for the opportunity to free up a bit more of my spirit.
It feels good.
I'll leave Atheists alone if they do me the same courtesy. That's a promise.
Hi, i'm Christian:
No, I don't see it as an attack, unless it is an obvious attack. You would have to be pretty stupid not to see the difference.
A question is a question - I answer it.
An attack is an attack- I say why I think the person is wrong in their opinion, and thats that. No harm done either way.
Some because they are paranoid, others because they are badly bruised by previous attacks.
You can tell which because the paranoid ones see Chrisitans questioning as "backsliding".
My attitude is, questions bring us closer to the TRUTH. Religion looks for truth relating to our heart and soul.
Science looks for truth reguarding our body.
So religion and science should compliment each other as Mind and Body.
However, FINDING the Truth is not the end goal.
LIVING the Truth is.
God save us from hypocrits.
Simply put, there is one thing most christians dislike more that a muslim or possibly a jew (after all the jews swung jesus from a tree didn't they?), and that is an atheist.
I have met far too many christians that have stated that because I am an atheist, I am a godless soul. Sorry but that kind of statement typifies just how stupid some christians can be. These stupid ones are the ones that would see questioning their belief as an attack. Not because they are religious, but because they are stupid.
It is probably perceived that way but I'm sure it is not the intention - Christians are often so paranoid and defensive. Christians should remember that most Atheists have a background of Christianity so they usually know what they are talking about with regard to religion. The reason many become Atheist is because they studied Christianity and the Bible so thoroughly in the first place and thus found all the holes.
It shouldn't be. It does depend on how you ask the question. You don't have to confine it to just Christianity. A Christian should respond appropriately, with kindness or something like that. If you say it in a way, to deliberately make them react then you should expect them to react accordingly. There are MANY Christians who should watch how they act and see that they are doing what they should be doing. We are all humans (I hope).
