Hi, one of my parents cats is in season. She's crying constantly and doing a weird thing where she puts her bum in the air lol! We're getting her operation done in a few weeks so she can go outside then, without getting pregnant
Just wondering, how longs she gonna do this for?? And why does our other cat (female and had her operation) get annoyed and try to hit her when she does it. They normally get on well. Thanks x

Cats can come into heat as early as six months of age. Increasing day length stimulates them. During the spring and summer, female cats will be receptive to breeding for several days. This will continue to cycle about every 2 weeks or until the cat is bred. The heat cycle will end with coming of fall and decrease in day length.

While vets will not alter a dog that is in heat, most will spay a cat that is in heat. Best bet is to call your vet and see if they will spay her and if they do, spay her. Otherwise you may find alot of males hanging around your house.

HAHAHA.....Our cat does the same thing and we need to get her fixed. The vet says we cannot get her fixed until she stops this erotic type behavior and the "season" stops. She goes in and out of season quite often lately and it lasts sometimes over two weeks and then stops for about a week and then goes on again. So I am guessing that your parents cat will do about the same. Once our cat and your cat is fixed they will stop this behavior. As far as the other cat smacking your other cat is normal and that too will stop once she is fixed by the vet. Also when your cat is fixed the other cat will probably not want to be near her for awhile until the smell of the vet and medicine and so on wears off. Cats can sense odd behavior and smell so they smack on the other cats. Hang in there and things will be fine soon.........

.: We have a female cat, and we would like to know how long a heat will last.
Will she mate all the time despite the fact she may have been mated the first day she showed signs of heat (unbearably loud meowing and her butt lifted high)? She has been kept inside the other days.
Could she be pregnant?

A.: A heat will last from a week to 10 days. She will mate as much as possible for as long as she is in heat.
It is definitely possible that she is pregnant.

Cats can stay in heat for a few days to prob a week. Right now its get knocked up season for cats so its great that you are getting her fixed. Keep her inside though after she is fixed. There are too many dangers outside for kitties. You don't want to lost your cat to poisoning, or being hit by a car or getting in a fight with another animal.
Your other cat is probably IS annoyed. Cats in heat are annoying. so shes probably hitting her to say cool your horny butt down. If it gets too bad or violent separate them until your other cat is fixed.

Your cats actions are her showing that she is 'In Season' if she has got out and pregnant the she will give birth between April & May. Other cats if they are female will see her as an enemy who wants to invade their territory because she is on heat. Give here a couple of weeks and they will all be getting on again.

Our cat came into season, so i kept her in for a few weeks, unfortunately is was already too late and she had kittens. Then before the kittens were 3 weeks old she came into season again (i didnt know that) and a few weeks after the first set went we had 5 more kittens born, got her spayed straight away. The vet told me they come into heat and basically stay in heat until they get pregnant. Then some cats can come into heat straight away after the birth, as my cat did.

She will do it for about 4 days, and then she won't do it after the operation. As for the other cat getting annoyed, I can't help you there, lol

That cat in is in heat! The other cat doesn't know what's going on! Try to get her fixed sooner.
