i have a dachshund an it has bad breath i have tried yhe dog breath mint bones but nothing seems to help .?

Dachshunds are notorious for bad breath. Have a vet check them to make sure nothing is decaying or to make sure gum disease has not set in. Vets do dentals on dogs just like we get done at the dentist so make sure you do that with your doxie when needed. Brush the teeth and buy the mint chewies made especially for bad breath. You said you tried the mint bones but there are a ton of products out on the market. One of them might work for you better than the other. Go to any pet supply store, petsmart or petco probably depending on where you live and have a stroll down the chewie and treat aisle. Unfortunately bad weenie breath comes with the territory. Depending on how old your doxie is, he/she may be in need of a teeth cleaning. We had a foster that could knock you over with her breath and we took her to the vet to have her teeth cleaned and found out that she had to have some removed as they were literally rotting in her mouth. Your doxie could also have bad breath from whatever he/she is eating. They have toothpaste for dogs that you can use to give them a good brushing and that may help.

I know it's a pain, but many vets recommend that you brush your dog's teeth daily. Dachshunds and poodles like mine are at risk for bad breath and dental problems because of their long, narrow mouths. Also, every few years you should get a dental cleaning for your dog. This can help prevent them from losing their teeth in old age.

We buy the dental supplies from the vet, but they also carry them at pet stores.

well if you go to the pet store you can but dog toothpaste and the you get a regular people toothbrush and brush its teeth. first you have to read the directions on the tube before you start brushing your dogs teeth. when you have finished doing both THEN you give it the mint bone so its breath won't get worse.

Do you brush your dog's teeth? If not, you may want to start now. Pet stores sometimes sell dog toothbrushes, and you can get special dog toothpaste from your vet. Make sure to use DOG toothpaste though, if your dog swallows human toothpaste, he or she is likely to get sick. As an added bonus, they usually come in flavors that dogs like, such as beef.

If you already brush your dogs teeth, try using Yip Yaps. If you've tried everything else, they might help a bit.

It comes in a powder form that you use to make dog biscuits from. I must warn you that while you are cooking these things they smell terrible,BUT the dogs love them and it truly does work. Dogs lick there butts as a favorite past time so unless your feeding him minty bones full time its breath is always going to stink. Why do you want to smell it breath anyway???
If you chew gum & it loses it flavour chances are in a few hours your breath is going to smell again.

Maybe look to his diet. If he's fed a natural (Bones and Raw Food) diet his breath shouldn't smell.

If he's fed that rather than tinned food or that Complete garbage, maybe ask your vet to check him out. It could be a problem with his teeth.
