That person has not been diagnosed to have bipolar, but she's showing some signs of bipolar such as:

anger
mood change
etc.

There are lots of things he can be if he wants to be rude he can be a snot. He can be taking advantage of the situation to be rude by hiding behind his illness. He can be stupid, and ungrateful, or blaming his parents, or he can be a person with a mean and petty nature.
Being bipolar doesn't rid you of usual behaviors, one still , for example uses the toilet and drives a car, swallows when they eat etc. If one has other psychological problems or is just a teen on a power trip. All those could be responsible.
I have known a few bipolars, and they don't seem to change behaviors with specific people, just with where they are on the manic-depressive line.

Bipolar is the most generic diagnoses that the mental health professionals hand out.

Everyone on the face of the earth, if sitting in front of a psychologist or psychiatrist at the right time could walk away with this diagnosis.

Of course some people have no control over their actions, and their situation can be helped with the proper meds...

Personally, I think it is a bunch of Bullsh*t! In my opinion the diagnosis should read "spoiled, self-centered brat w/ a attitude problem"

My mother was bipolar. There will be no question when this illness is there. It just sounds like hormonal changes in a teenager. Bipolar is drastic highs and lows probably rude to everyone. No one is treated better than anyone else. Sleeping for days on the low days, Up and very happy on the high days. All these symptons can still describe a teenager with hormonal changes. Only way to be sure is see a doctor and they will take blood to see the hormone levels and mood swing evaluation.

Bipolar disorder is an extremely serious mental disorder, and if that person was not diagnosed by a pschychiatrist as having it then they can't say they have it. It's become popular, for some reason, to claim to be bipolar when in reality one is only moody or has a bad temper or tends to sulk.

If someone is actually bipolar (diagnosed), then they will need medical help in order to control the mood swings caused by the chemical imbalances in their brain. They can't choose their moods and often an untreated bipolar will attempt suicide at some time in their life.

If someone is only claiming to be bipolar, you could try challenging them on why they're pretending to have a serious, even fatal, mental disease without medical backup or treatment. If they're copping out by blaming their rages and sulky moods on a disorder then they ought to be willing to go to a doctor and get treatment. If they're not willing, then they are getting away with taking no responsibility for their actions which is not going to cut it with society.

We can all choose, even if we have an illness but how do you know that this person is Bi-Polar? It sounds more like bad behaviour dressed up as something else to excuse it. If this person has a genuine illness then their responsibility is to seek medical help and take medication. Like most Mental Illness BP is well understood and treated properly should not affect anyone to the described degree. There is no excuse for abusive behaviour.

Don't play games with these diagnoses. Have you ever seen the symptoms for a bipolar disorder? Why do amateurs feel they have to label everything? What is the point?

Maybe a problem dealing with authority?
If a guy doesn't respect his parents, he will not respect anyone. At first, he may seem respectful to you, because he wants something from you. Once he gets what he wants, he will start to treat you the same way he treats his parents.
How a person interacts with their parents is a good indication of how they interact with others.

well those choices don't sound like 'bipolar'

but that is human nature - ive watched my parents fight like hell, but when the phone rings, mom is smiling through her voice and asking how the person on the other end is. Nice as ever - phone hangs up, she's back to rippin' my dad a new one....

Being bipolar myself I can tell you that it doesn't sound like this person you describe is bipolar.
Sounds like a brat, who disrespects parents.

If the person is really bi-polar & they are taking their medication, then they can choose to be rude or not.
It doesn't have to be a mental illness for someone to be rude to anyone or good to another!
