Work out what's causing the stress and eliminate it.
I know this is easier said than done, but there was a time 6 years ago that my wife had post-natal depression. As a consequence, I developed reactive depression. This was not helped by the repressive working environment in which I found myself - a call centre!
I took nearly 5 weeks off, during which I went fishing - completely empties the head!. I also found and was offered a new job. Whilst this may not be YOUR answer, the rules are the same:
Get help and help yourself.

This, below, is just for 'simple' or temporary stress, which we all have. Our jobs, our relationships, our general life, all comes with little and big problems that are bound to overwhelm us. If there is something that is really backing you into a corner, there is no simple answer for this. If you are in a truly bad situation you must look for some professional counseling to carry you through.
The first thing you must do is to get out of the house. That can include taking a walk, doing some errands, etc., whatever it takes to get you out of yourself.
The second thing is to connect with people. Call, or better yet visit with, your friends and relatives.
The third thing is: Stop and think to yourself, 'What Can I do to Make Myself Feel better?'. Make a habit of doing this when you feel stressed. The answer might be as simple as going shopping or doing a favorite craft, going to the movies, or taking up a hobby, but you will soon find that the answer is within you.

Find something you enjoy doing and do that when you feel stressed. Could be a hobby, soaking bath, anything to help you reduce stress. Next, make sure to exercise. The work out also helps to reduce stress. Third, breathing exercise. Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. Make sure to breathe in deeply and count slowly to 3 both breathing in and out. You know you are doing the breathing right when you breathe in and your stomach expands therefore letting your diaphram stretch.

I work in a manufacturing plant. When machines are down, I go in to repair. The stress level is high when the factory is trying to meet the output target.
To help myself manage the stress, I did a few things:
- I take vitamin B with vitamin C. Vitamin B complex will feed your brain with the fuel to combat stress. Vitamin C will help your body absorb the vitamin B easily. You will notice your urine is yellowish because most vitamin B is removed from your body. Do not take vitamin B at night because it will keep you awake.
- Take chamomile tea during your break time to calm yourself down.
- Sleep well helps you to handle tomorrow stress better. Melatonin helps you to sleep. Some brand of melatonin comes with chamomile added. Listen to music to help you relax before sleeping.
- Exercise away your stress. You feel stress because of stress hormones in your body. Burn them up through exercise. Simple yoga also help. Vigorous exercise like jogging works better.

See www.stress.org & enter that term in the Webferret & your search engine. Practice the method at http://deeplyrelax.com & meditate for 20 mins daily. http://www.selfhelpmagazine.com Meditation room; try it out; mantra meditation; choose to repeat: "easy". Avoid coffee & other caffeine sources, tea, Pepsi, Red Bull completely; chocolate (small amounts OK). Also avoid aspartame. Exercise vigorously for 30 - 60 mins, daily. Tai Chi & yoga can help, too.
