My fiance and i have a long distance realtionship, a couple of times i have cooked and he is not a fan of my cooking, i dont cook poorly, just not for his taste, i make lots of salad and chicken, things he is not a fan of.
I need ideas for a good impressive meal, 3 course or more.
He is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, but is willing to try new stuff as long as it tastes good. I would make steak but i know its not going to be as good as a restaurant.
What should i cook?

Borscht, haha, i can do that, good idea, being that i am russian and all :)
Ok, i will go for the steak. even though cost wise that will suck a bit.
In terms of the steak, i have no grill, so oven or skillet?
I want to make funky stuff, like something fancy. Like lobster thermodor next to his steak or something.

I think that you should make a roast, especially if you have a crock pot and especially since he likes beef. If it is just the two of you, I don't know how much you guys eat.. I would cook a roast that is no more than 1 1/2 pounds, maybe closer to 1 pound. Put it in the crock pot and pour a can of beef broth over it. Add pepper, but no salt (salt last so that you don't draw the moisture out of the meat). Then place half an onion in the pot for flavor (or you can chop it if you would like to eat the pieces), place a few carrots in the pot, and quartered potatoes. Place the lid over it and let it cook all day long (at least 6-7 hours). If you cook it in the oven, I suggest browning it first on the stove and then placing it in the oven dish for baking and cooking it for about 2 hours, tightly covered with aluminum foil to keep in the moisture.
When the roast is done cooking you should make a gravy.. What I have found works the best is taking all of the broth out of the pan and into a small pot (add water so that this adds up to 2 cups of liquid). In a cup or bowl mix 4TBSP of flour with just a tad bit of water so that it will mix evenly with your broth. Stir that in and wisk or stir well. Stirring often, bring it up to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. When it is almost done add 1TSP of Gravy Master (you can find this at almost any grocery store in a brown glass bottle with an orange label). Salt to taste. Once the gravy is done, you can add it back to the roast or you can make mashed potatoes to eat it with (in that case I would leave out the potatoes in the roast).
This is my fiance's favorite thing to eat and if he is a beef and potatoes kind of guy he will love it.. plus it really isn't that hard to make!

Steak is easy.
Start with a couple nice rib eye or ny steaks.
Rub with olive oil
Season both sides with black pepper, season salt, garlic powder, onion powder.
Cook on grill, set temp on medium high heat.
Sear 1st side before turning, then the other. Searing helps seal the juices (flavor) in. Do Not Use a fork to turn, use tongs.
Rare- 5 mins
medium rare 5-10 mins
medium well 10-15 mins
Garlic potatoes
Cut potatoes in to aprox 1" chunks, boil untill cooked
in a separate pot melt 1 stick butter, 1 tsp garlic, 1 tsp sea salt, 1 tsp fresh basil
Pour butter mix over taters.
My Camp Beans
1 can red beans, drained
1 can black beans. drained
1 onion
1 red bell pepper
1 green bell pepper
1/2 jar picante sauce, medium.
1 package polska kilbasa sausage.
Put in crock pot and simmer on high for 4 hours, low for 10 hours. I use a dutch oven when camping over a camp fire.
Should be fairly tasty and has lots of color. I am a color cook, more color, more flavor :)

steak it's easy, let me take you through step by step.
ingredients:-
steak
olive oil
oregano
salt
pepper
4 carrots
2 turnips
10 small potatoes
salad
Rosemary
seasoning:-
(do the night before)
get the steak and tenderize it (eg. whack it with a mallet or rolling pin) then put it in a freezer bag. in with it put about 3 tbsp of olive oil some pepper corns some salt and some oregano then tenderize again and leave in fridge over night.
roasting vegetables: on the night
line a baking tray with olive oil, put in sliced carrots, potatoes and turnips. then sprinkle with Rosemary.
the steak:
line a griddle pan or frying pan ( i suggest griddle) and line with olive oil. heat it up and put the steak in, sear of the sides, as in make them brown then do with the rest of the sides. once seared you have to cook it. still in the pan leave it on a flat side. for about 3 min. then do the other flat side. once that side is done test it:- place your middle finger to your thumb. and push the large bulky bit at the base of your thumb, to the lower right of your Palm. the same feeling of that bit should be the same feeling on the steak. if not then repeat with the turning over each side until it is.
serving:-
place the steak to the lower right of the plate and the vegetables to the upper right and some salad to the left.

Russian soup (for example borsh) to begin with ... then some fried meat or roasted(meat that your bf prefers) with some smashed potatoes(which could be softened and made tastier by adding milk or butter to it) with some wonderful salad ... then some Indian curry(if he is a fan of spices) with steamed rice or fried rice ... then an excellent desert of your choice to end the dinner with
